Staying at home a choice??

The author of this article thinks most mothers go to work because they want to, not because they have to.

"Most parents from two-parent families today do have a choice when it comes to parental care. They can try and talk themselves into believing they don't, but it really boils down to priorities."

http://backofthebook.ca/living/2007/03/part-time-ophanages-part-2-job-only.html

Does anyone (other than her) really believe this? I don't know of anyone among my friends who works who wouldn't rather be staying at home with their children. But they don't have the choice!

<She is 8 1/2. I take too much pride in my home to have it destroyed. I am letting her do what she wants with it as she is getting older, posters on the walls, etc. but I still feel like there should not be things like wrappers and food in there. She needs to learn that cloths go in the hamper, not on the floor or shoved in drawers, etc. She is a paper hound and everywhere you look there is paper. I am just trying to teach her to throw things away that are garbage. >

Fair enough.

She doesn't have one day to clean everything up. Just like the rest of the house, I try to continue everyday cleaning things up so it doesn't get out of control.

She can't find things because she never puts anything back where they came from so that is very hard to do with her. I have put baskets in her room so she can organize things and that works well for her.

My living room as toys under the tables and that is ok with me if it is things they actually use everyday. Every once in a while we will clean it out and they will bring new things out. The toys just can not be left on the floor as we will have no place to walk-lol!

I feel much better when everything is in order and I can find something in a second. It is very chaotic in my house so one of us has to be organized-lol!!

I straighten up the whole house every night before I go to bed, including the boys' rooms.

OMG-yes that would be!! I try and start Friday night and then continue little bit on Sat. and Sun. but not too much that it is overwhelming. If I am off, the first thing I do is throw in a load. I usually do about 4 loads a week so it is not too bad.

It doesn't take me long either. We straighten up before we leave in the morning and I try at night (if my dh goes to bed later, there might be things not put away). I feel better if I do a little each day instead of overwhelming myself on the weekends. I want to spend time outside with the kids and going places instead of just cleaning and doing laundry. I have given up on the pollen already though, inside and out! I am having guests over this weekend though so I will dust inside and clean outside as best as I can.

That's exactly what I do. Although, I admit to letting it get a little backed up this past week when Joel was throwing up for days and days and days. I spent so much time on emergency laundry that the regular stuff got behind. ACCCKKKK!!!

Yes, your decription of how much you needed a new couch almost brought tears to my eyes.

I'm the complete opposite. I would find daily laundry absolutely miserable. I like getting it done in a big lump once per week.
