Staying at home a choice??

The author of this article thinks most mothers go to work because they want to, not because they have to.
"Most parents from two-parent families today do have a choice when it comes to parental care. They can try and talk themselves into believing they don't, but it really boils down to priorities."

Does anyone (other than her) really believe this? I don't know of anyone among my friends who works who wouldn't rather be staying at home with their children. But they don't have the choice!

When I woh, before kids, I would do it on a weeknight or two. When I woh with children, it was under DH's perview. When I sah with small kids, it was under DH's perview. Now that I am at home when they are in school. I do it when they are in school.
Laundry is one of the jobs that flows back and forth as our situation changes. DH is still able to put in a load and fold and put away from time to time. It is fairly fluid.
we don't have a designated sheet changing day, either. this past weekend,we had company over for dd2's first communion..i waited until the last minute to change those sheets for them. and while i changed them again after they left,i won't remember to do it again until i just do. two weeks,i think. lol.

Not laura, but I'll answer ...
We do it Sat/Sun (either/and/or). The washing/drying part, while it takes all day for the machines to run, doesn't take a lot of time on my or Allen's part. 5 min per load to start the washer and less than 5 to transfer from washer to dryer. So that part, for all 6 or so loads, takes less than 45 min of our time. The folding takes maybe 1/2 an hour per load, but we split that, and often do it while catching up on a tv show or watching a movie. So that 3 hours (max) serves as double duty. The kids put their own away, so that saves he and I some time as well.
We can adjust our water level and wash length too. but it still runs longer to run 2 1/2 loads than a full one.
We have about 5-6 loads a week (1 whites, 1 coloreds, 2 darks, 1-2 towels/sheets). Sometimes more, depending on towel/sheet usage for the week. Sometimes we'll run one load during the week if there's a particular item someone needs.
