Staying at home a choice??

The author of this article thinks most mothers go to work because they want to, not because they have to.

"Most parents from two-parent families today do have a choice when it comes to parental care. They can try and talk themselves into believing they don't, but it really boils down to priorities."

http://backofthebook.ca/living/2007/03/part-time-ophanages-part-2-job-only.html

Does anyone (other than her) really believe this? I don't know of anyone among my friends who works who wouldn't rather be staying at home with their children. But they don't have the choice!

i forgot what denomination you were again? one observation i carried with me about dh's former denomination was how nice and respectful they dressed for church....you don't see much of that in the catholic church. what's more common here are jeans, casual sundresses and sometimes even soccer or baseball uniforms (yep, you know where they're going afterwards..lol).

As my VERY catholic Grandma always says "God doesn't care how you look just if you show up :)"

i confess that as something we enjoy doing on weekends. sometimes,it's the park, the stables and soon,it will be the pool, but because my kids' organized activities are on weekdays instead of more mainstream dominated weekends,it's really our time to spend together at home.

is she my dd2's age - 7? what do you tell her - that she can wear anything she wants to for mass? i don't know. i try to separate casual/play clothes from those of more reverent occassions like mass.....i don't fight it but i do want my kids to know from an early age that nice clothes like dresses, nice blouses and skirts are church clohtes. she recognizes her first communion shoes as church shoes now, too. even my 4 year old ds recognizes his saddle shoes and nicer slacks as *church* clohtes.

well I draw the line at shorts and tank tops -- but I do let her wear those 'skorts' she has from Target, gauchos and flip flops and sandals.

but she never wears dresses and tights and fancy shoes to church

"Do your kids actually care if their clothes are wrinkled or is it your issue?"

More of my issue at this point, but I hope eventually they come to take pride in their appearance.

"After the kids' bedtime is RARELY used for chores/housework. Thats *our* time (reading, tv, movies, sex ...)"

Okay.

Because every hour you'd have to be putting a new load in the washer and moving the load in the washer into the dryer?
