Staying at home a choice??

The author of this article thinks most mothers go to work because they want to, not because they have to.

"Most parents from two-parent families today do have a choice when it comes to parental care. They can try and talk themselves into believing they don't, but it really boils down to priorities."

Does anyone (other than her) really believe this? I don't know of anyone among my friends who works who wouldn't rather be staying at home with their children. But they don't have the choice!

"Okay. I don't know any families where both parents WOH FT like you and your DH where every evening after 9 pm is free time."

You have to make it free time. Once my kids are in bed, I am done for the day. This is the time I relax before I go to bed.

That's one choice.

So you clean while they are awake?

I have a lot of help - nanny who cooks dinner two or three nights a week, a biweekly cleaning service - and I still can't manage to keep every single weekday evening free after 9 pm.

I have no help...no nanny..no housecleaning service

I pinch hit our meals
dust only when companies coming
throw laundry in when I can
and forget when we changed the sheets last.

and I have some pretty darn relaxed evenings.... ;-)

Yes. We. Did.

Not to mention pride in your appearance doesn't mean that your t-shirt doesn't have any wrinkles in it. My children aren't wrinkled yet they also aren't pressed and starched (unless it's clothing that requires that - for example their pants and dress shirt for their orchestra concerts).

I would have no idea. I just stated that it is a fact that hardwoods that have pets, children will cleats, toys, hard furniture without padding on the legs, etc will need to be resurfaced more often than those that dont. It is common sense. What is so funny?

Then why do you think I COULD stay home but don't because I bought a couch? I told it like it is, there is no money for necessities with 1 income. I can say I want to stay home as someone with a job might say they want to win lotto and quit. It most likely won't happen but it is something you really want.

I'm a single WOHP and pretty much I'm done at 8 or 8:30. Frankly if the dishes are still in the sink I don't really care, I need some time for me. Now since I do have my laundry room on my top floor I'll sometimes do some laundry in the evening.
