Staying at home a choice??

The author of this article thinks most mothers go to work because they want to, not because they have to.

"Most parents from two-parent families today do have a choice when it comes to parental care. They can try and talk themselves into believing they don't, but it really boils down to priorities."

Does anyone (other than her) really believe this? I don't know of anyone among my friends who works who wouldn't rather be staying at home with their children. But they don't have the choice!

Not to mention that their expenses would INCREASE since she currently covers the health insurance and it would cost more for her DH to carry it.

Whether or not you have the responsibility is, I guess, a matter of your personal interpretation of the word. However, no matter how you slice it, there is nothing that would restrict anyone's "right" to report abuse of the system and/or illegal activity.

And how, exactly, will it catch up with him if everyone just turns a blind eye to what he's doing?

People reporting these things IS how they catch up with people.

But you are questioning people's "right" to report abuse. You used that word, not me. You are saying in general the average person doesn't have the right to report abuse. I disagree. Now if you are too chicken to report government fraud & abuse now that would be you, I guess. I'm sure there are anonymous ways to report anyone.

Also did you mean an "if" in there. Yous stated that my dds are friends with someone whose parent is abusing the systemk. Did you mean if, because I can't think of anyone we know who is doing that. But IF I did, you are questioning my right to judge them? Yes I have the right to judge whether someone is doing something wrong and defrauding the government and wasting taxpayer's money. That doesn't mean I level the judgment on them. I can report them & let the authorities investigate and see if they actually are abusing the system & let the police/justice department decide the judgment/punishment.

"if people like this have to disguise themselves the way this man does,it will catch up with him." No, no one will catch up with him if you leave it up to people like you and hazeleyes.

There is no emoticon that fits this situation!

Yes, I have the right (and my duty) to report crimes if I see them.

Do you just look the other way if you see someone driving drunk? Close your eyes if you see someone breaking into your neighbors house? Turn away from the shoplifter shoving scarves in their purse? Because abuse of things like disability affect all of us. Not just tax-wise, but those people who truly *need* to be on disability and cant get it because of people like that.

Who exactly *is* responsible for reporting crime, in your opinion?

in this case,he's got a responsibility for regular medical exams..he's told us that he's a bit p.o'd his doctor is ready to release him, that he's fighting for additional extensions of his leave, something like that. and so far,it's working. so far....it won't last forever.

do you believe you have the right to report someone abusing credit? it annoys me that a friend of mine has filed for bankruptcy (before the laws changed,no less) because she overextended herself on fluff. sort of the same thing from where i'm sitting. abuses go on. taxpayers pay the penalty for all of it.

Some would not consider it an advantage, that is the point. Some of us LIKE to work and do out in the big bad world.

Not everyone will be spending fortunes on their pets. Ours is a mostly-outdoor cat. He gets a shave every spring and a couple worm pills. He has had the odd scrape from fights we had fixed up, but nothing too expensive. (And neutering of course).

But if paying to keep a pet healthy is not a priority, then one should really reconsider getting that pet. Although, I am very attached to our cat so I would probably seriously consider paying for an expensive procedure if he became sick. If it would result it too much pain or recovery then I would most likely have the poor guy put down.
