Staying at home a choice??

The author of this article thinks most mothers go to work because they want to, not because they have to.
"Most parents from two-parent families today do have a choice when it comes to parental care. They can try and talk themselves into believing they don't, but it really boils down to priorities."

Does anyone (other than her) really believe this? I don't know of anyone among my friends who works who wouldn't rather be staying at home with their children. But they don't have the choice!

Our cat is a bit of an oxymoron too... he's a wussy out door cat. He catches mice and is the friendliest cat on the face of the earth, but loves sprawling our bed the occasional cold night to sleep. And would probably back out of a fight if he had to. :>
I think he's about 6 now.
thanks. It was actually meant to be rhetorical, though. :)

I have 3 cats. Chronologically, they are 4 (nearly 5), 4 (just turned) and 3 (4 in September). Our expenses for them run:
Food: $35/2 weeks = $910/yr
Litter for 5 boxes = $25/2 weeks =650/yr
Pet Health Insurance: $240/yr each for 2 of them and $360/yr for the other = 840/yr
Toys/Bedding/Misc supplies = 60/yr
Now, one of the cats may be changing to the $360/yr Health insurance plan (covers dental cleanings, as Siamese are much more prone to needing them than other breeds). But the total for the above equals $2460 a year, just for the very basics of care. None of those costs include any of the emergency issues that I discussed early in the thread. $2460 is just the BASIC annual cost for keeping a pet.
