Staying at home a choice??

The author of this article thinks most mothers go to work because they want to, not because they have to.

"Most parents from two-parent families today do have a choice when it comes to parental care. They can try and talk themselves into believing they don't, but it really boils down to priorities."

http://backofthebook.ca/living/2007/03/part-time-ophanages-part-2-job-only.html

Does anyone (other than her) really believe this? I don't know of anyone among my friends who works who wouldn't rather be staying at home with their children. But they don't have the choice!

You can have mine, free of charge, if you're willing to come up to WV and haul it away, lol. We prefer showers and its just taking up space. Its the width of a kiddie pool, and about 1.5 feet deep. I detest the thing.

I have transferred to get lower rates on these. My discover I have had forever and just transfer on it to get lower rates. One is a 0% that I transferred from something else to pay it off quicker. My one card, we use for whatever we need and yes, it has things on it from awhile ago.
I use the dept. store cards to get coupons. I get $10 coupons from the Gap everytime I use it and Kohl's send 15%. I saved hundreds of dollars, almost $1,000 on the home depot card when I opened it to do the kitchen. These are always paid off any month I use them.

I am very grateful. My company pays 25% towards daycare so that is under $200/week. My daughter's after-care is $10/day which is good and I have been lucky to get her in holiday and summer camp at a rate of $90/week.
One more year and daycare will be over though so that will be a huge expense lifted from us.

Pet Health Insurance? Never heard of that before.

I am aware of how much food costs etc. But I also said I do not use litter, we live on a fair sized piece of land with a field that is not really used, and our cat goes in there. (at least I think he does)

A pet doesn't have to be a large cost. But, also, if you are not prepared to pay it, or if anyone is going to complain about the cost, I suggest not getting pets.

And? That's irrelevant as we're not talking about WOH. No one said WOH was a privilege or an advantage.

<< too bad some wohms CAN'T share the same sentiment about sah. >>

Sure, some can't. But *some* isn't enough to meet the definition of privilege; that would require MOST.

<>

Whatever. There are hundreds of thousands of WOHMs that could do exactly what you do.

Hey, you're the one that keeps insisting that if one is a SAHM and uses credit cards that she isn't truly living on one income. You're the one that keeps bringing the use of CC and welfare into the situation.

My point is that you can't say you live on one income and then rely on cc's for the entire time you are home for everything from utilities to food. That kind of things should be in your budget and if they are not, then you can not afford to stay home. I was only talking about sahp's.

Of course you do. It's your taxpayer money. You have every right in the world. In fact, I think you have the OBLIGATION to do so. almost every agency around will have some sort of anonymous tip line for reporting fraud and/or abuse.

And if it's "later" that it catches up to him, there are hundreds of thousands of dollars lost. Dollars that could have saved the life of a child. Dollars that could have provided an elderly person a home. Dollars that could have gone to a use that actually fits the mission of the program.

Abusing? No. It's their money. Not taxpayer money. Committing fraud via the credit system? Yep.

Taxpayers don't pay for losses due to bankruptcy. Customers of the non-paid companies do, but it isn't tax money.
