Staying at home a choice??

The author of this article thinks most mothers go to work because they want to, not because they have to.

"Most parents from two-parent families today do have a choice when it comes to parental care. They can try and talk themselves into believing they don't, but it really boils down to priorities."

Does anyone (other than her) really believe this? I don't know of anyone among my friends who works who wouldn't rather be staying at home with their children. But they don't have the choice!

But it's okay to relay on CCs for needs like car repairs and other unanticipated expenses (that should ALSO be covered in your budget via "that's why we have savings") if you have 2 incomes???

Whatever.

I, personally, and most of my wah/woh friends, could live as financially comfortable as a sahm as egd3. My entire salary goes to college and retirement funds with the balance used for the luxuries we get to indulge in, family vacations, Patriots and Bosox season tickets. We'd give up the luxuries in a heartbeat, but I think the privilege of sending my children to the college of their choice and being self-supporting in retirement, is more important than sah for our family situation.

Speaking of kitty health care, The Imperial Minh has his 6 month follow up with the cardiologist in about two weeks. The first ultrasound ran us $425.

I indicated it when the op said she used wic but was able to stay home on one income. I don't believe relying on other sources for your main bills is being able to live off of one income.
