Staying at home a choice??

The author of this article thinks most mothers go to work because they want to, not because they have to.

"Most parents from two-parent families today do have a choice when it comes to parental care. They can try and talk themselves into believing they don't, but it really boils down to priorities."

Does anyone (other than her) really believe this? I don't know of anyone among my friends who works who wouldn't rather be staying at home with their children. But they don't have the choice!

Sometimes there are things like emergencies. My dh's car broke down twice. We could not use my car for him to go to work, so we had to rent a car. That is what I consider an emergency. I don't consider not being able to pay your car insurance or electric bill and emergency. That should be in a budget already. We do have car repairs in our budget but this made it go way over so now we owe.

No, my neighbors are very good friends with us. I know all of my dh's family for 20 years.

do you believe you have the right to report someone abusing credit? it annoys me that a friend of mine has filed for bankruptcy (before the laws changed,no less) because she overextended herself on fluff. sort of the same thing from where i'm sitting.

Then you need to sit somewhere else.

I guess I am seeing it a different way. I have certain bills that are in my budget and I never would use the money for something else. Some of my budget might go over and that is when I use the cc's but I pay them back (car repairs, clothes). I know people who are always saying "I don't know how I am going to pay my car insurance, oil bill or food". Those are things that I have allotted and never have to worry about.

So in otherwords, its just as pumkinangel said.

Unless you are paying the cc's off every month, you are spending money you dont really have. Yet another example of why your dream of sah is unlikely to ever come to fruition.

Perhaps what you mean to say is that you feel privileged or fortunate to have the opportunity to live the way you want to live? Much as someone might say that she feels privileged or fortunate to have a job she loves.

It's not being able to buy food for your family. That should be one of your top priority budgets. I would never take money from my food budget. That is just as important as my mortgage or utilities.
