Staying at home a choice??

The author of this article thinks most mothers go to work because they want to, not because they have to.

"Most parents from two-parent families today do have a choice when it comes to parental care. They can try and talk themselves into believing they don't, but it really boils down to priorities."

Does anyone (other than her) really believe this? I don't know of anyone among my friends who works who wouldn't rather be staying at home with their children. But they don't have the choice!

Like I said before, my priorities are different than others. Food and shelter are most important to me and they are in my budget first. I would never pay my ulility bills late or just a little of them.

We also have pet health insurance for all of our cats (it's pretty expensive for the 15 yo).

"A pet doesn't have to be a large cost"

Our 15 yo has cost us practically nothing in terms of health crises, but whether or not a pet ends up costing a lot is pretty much out of my hands. We were lucky with her (and the costs may still come.....).

but you're still spending money you don't have. The method of payment doens't mean you have the money.

So, you pay the $100 elec bill in cash and put the $100 car repair on CC. Your end result: you had $100 and spent $200.

That's not ANY different than paying the $100 car bill in cash adn putting the $100 elec bill on the cc. That person had $100 adn spent $200.

Perhaps she's speaking in net terms versus gross?

I was not talking about emergency things on cc's for a sahm. I was talking about relying on them to pay your basic bills. If you can not budget in your ulilities and food each week in your budget, then you can not live on one income. These are not emergencies things, like car repairs and rental cars like we have had to use, these are lifes necessities.

I guess I am seeing this a different way.

You don't have friends that you sit and talk about very personal things?

So I guess you don't get together with people. Go to bbq's, dinner parties, just hang out in the pool, etc? Most things are spoken to in private to my dh when they are hanging out but they are not secret.
