Staying at home a choice??

The author of this article thinks most mothers go to work because they want to, not because they have to.

"Most parents from two-parent families today do have a choice when it comes to parental care. They can try and talk themselves into believing they don't, but it really boils down to priorities."

Does anyone (other than her) really believe this? I don't know of anyone among my friends who works who wouldn't rather be staying at home with their children. But they don't have the choice!

<<Like I said before, my priorities are different than others.>>

I figured that out a long time ago,

Exactly but a car repair in my mind is an emergency not electric. You don't repair your car every month, but you do have to pay your electric bill every month. We do have car maitenance money in our budget so that money goes to pay for the cc as we could not afford to pay $1,500 at one shot for the repair and rental.

So how did you calculate that you could afford 4 children?

But what SOA is trying to get you to understand is that they are both THE EXACT SAME THING! The same amount of money is going out in both scenarios and what is being put on the cc is a necessary expense - not a manicure or spa treatment.

Of course.

That's great and all, but my kids are too young and i have no one to take care of them(1 & 2), so I decided to quit teaching. Maybe I'll go back when they get older, although I'm making about 1000 a week at this new thing so i'll probably stick around to see what happens. There are plenty of ways to skin a cat, mine just happens to be less messy. My husband has a good medical plan, so i don't worry about that.

Those arent emergencies either. Thats normal maintenance and should be factored into any budget. Everyone should have a savings account that is designated for things like that, because they are *not* unforeseen. I mean, do people really buy cars and expect them to never break down???? Thats just poor financial planning.

Have you read any financial self-help books? The book "All Your Worth" is pretty good and might give you some perspective.

Yes. Overuse of credit cards isnt illegal (although for some perhaps it should be!) so it cannot be used as an accurate comparison to something like disability fraud.

<<So I guess you don't get together with people. Go to bbq's, dinner parties, just hang out in the pool, etc?>>

Well, you would be guessing incorrectly.
