Staying at home a choice??

The author of this article thinks most mothers go to work because they want to, not because they have to.
"Most parents from two-parent families today do have a choice when it comes to parental care. They can try and talk themselves into believing they don't, but it really boils down to priorities."

Does anyone (other than her) really believe this? I don't know of anyone among my friends who works who wouldn't rather be staying at home with their children. But they don't have the choice!

This isn't directed at you PKA, but I wanted to jump in and yours was the lat post i read.
I have a friend or two who know a LOT about my finances. One in particular because she is my financial advisor, as well as my friend. Other friends know our general income range, know what approximately what we paid for our house, know I spent $4K on my furniture last week, that I have no long-term cc debt, etc ... but they don't know that I have a rather large Money Market right now, or that I have a short-term $2000 balance on my Lowe's card or how much my car insurance is.
So I guess we're middle of the road. They know a few details and a lot of generalities, but not many specifics. Not to the level that hazeleyes seems to know about her acquaintances.

How? What tax money goes to them in those cases?
