Staying at home a choice??

The author of this article thinks most mothers go to work because they want to, not because they have to.

"Most parents from two-parent families today do have a choice when it comes to parental care. They can try and talk themselves into believing they don't, but it really boils down to priorities."

Does anyone (other than her) really believe this? I don't know of anyone among my friends who works who wouldn't rather be staying at home with their children. But they don't have the choice!

I disagree. I think it is a business contract between two parties. However using your logic the majority ask for help. I mean I think most people have car loans (or had a car loan at one time) and carry a mortgage.

The point is, you should not *have* to be getting a loan for things. Its great that you have good credit, but thats kind of neither here nor there in regards to what is being discussed.

And if you had to put a $1500 car repair bill on credit, that heavily implies you have minimal savings. You should have at *least* 3 months of living expenses set aside at all times for emergencies-as opposed to using credit cards for emergencies.

If something happened and you and your dh both lost your jobs, how long could you make it with no income?
