Staying at home a choice??

The author of this article thinks most mothers go to work because they want to, not because they have to.

"Most parents from two-parent families today do have a choice when it comes to parental care. They can try and talk themselves into believing they don't, but it really boils down to priorities."

Does anyone (other than her) really believe this? I don't know of anyone among my friends who works who wouldn't rather be staying at home with their children. But they don't have the choice!

I'm interested in my friends, family and neighbors lives, just not interested in knowing the balance of their financial accounts.

For example I know a ton about you, but I have no clue as to what you have in the bank.

Many loans between family and friends are a contract between two parties, verbal or written.

<<I mean I think most people have car loans (or had a car loan at one time) and carry a mortgage. >>

Yes, those are other examples of asking for help.

And I do but the point is, I can not save that much in my maintenance budget for our cars. My dh has to get a rental everytime he does not have a car to drive to work. That is an expense each time. When you have to spend money on daycare each week, it is hard to save extra money for car repairs that go over your budget. You have NO clue how much a repair is going to cost per month so you try the best you can and save as much as you can but then things happen.

And? I live in a high COL where "starter" homes cost $600-$700k and we have plenty of sahps whose partners are not working two jobs.

I love how things get twisted. My inlaws and neighbors have NEVER bragged about being on wic or welfare or how they scam the system. The never once would say they are scamming the system, I am saying that.

How do I know? I have known my dh's family for 20 years. I know them VERY well.

The last across the street from us has lived in her house 72 years. She was born there and has stayed there since her parents died.
