Staying at home a choice??

The author of this article thinks most mothers go to work because they want to, not because they have to.

"Most parents from two-parent families today do have a choice when it comes to parental care. They can try and talk themselves into believing they don't, but it really boils down to priorities."

Does anyone (other than her) really believe this? I don't know of anyone among my friends who works who wouldn't rather be staying at home with their children. But they don't have the choice!

So you agree that it is possible to live in your local area and only have one income? Ok.

I never said there were not any here either but it is getting harder and harder to have one person working now unless you want to commute everyday and not even enjoy your home.
People on LI make much less than NYC.

It is very unusual to see that nowadays and I find it nice that everyone around me has stayded so long. It makes for a nice neighborhood.

You have lived there, 10 years, is that what you stated earlier?

Telling her she "should" have that in the bank is a slam on a wm who is doing her best to support her family.

I didn't think it was a slam on her at all. It wasn't Dj's opinion that she should have several months of expenses saved, that is standard advice to people from financial people. That advice is given to everyone so that people don't live paycheck to paycheck and end up homeless when unforseen expenses come up and/or you lose your job.

You know someone has reported your neighbor and nothing has happened?

Yes, but when one vents on a debate board, don't you expect us to debate that venting?
