Staying at home a choice??

The author of this article thinks most mothers go to work because they want to, not because they have to.

"Most parents from two-parent families today do have a choice when it comes to parental care. They can try and talk themselves into believing they don't, but it really boils down to priorities."

Does anyone (other than her) really believe this? I don't know of anyone among my friends who works who wouldn't rather be staying at home with their children. But they don't have the choice!

My friend Betzi does that. She lives in Indiana. They built a home with her parents and the house is about 4500 sq ft. They live on the lower floor and her parents live upstairs. She has two children and her parents care for the children while she and her DH are at work. It works out great for them.

You don't think it's a little crass to talk about how much money people have?

What about all of the posts where you stated that your mil changed names, wanted your dd's social security number, put all of her energy into staying on

Are you just talking your immediate area or the general area?

Of course life happens. And thank goodness she had some $ in savings to cover part of those expenditures. I never said that true emergencies dont happen. But a person who does not have $1500 in the bank to cover a car repair, AND outstanding cc debt, AND car debt, AND furniture debt, yet consistently complains that she really wants to sah but just cant because they live in a high col area, should probably take a closer look at how they are handling their finances. Or not-but dont complain about the reality of their choices.

You have lived in the same house or area for 35 years?
