Staying at home a choice??

The author of this article thinks most mothers go to work because they want to, not because they have to.

"Most parents from two-parent families today do have a choice when it comes to parental care. They can try and talk themselves into believing they don't, but it really boils down to priorities."

Does anyone (other than her) really believe this? I don't know of anyone among my friends who works who wouldn't rather be staying at home with their children. But they don't have the choice!

Not in terms of their financial situation. I'm much more interested in the fun, exciting parts of their lives like concerts or trips or new houses. Or the drama of their lives like their overbearing in laws or competitive sisters. Or the things we have in common like adolescents or volunteer opportunities. I really could not care less about how much CC debt my friends have.

And don't forget ... she's been ragging on some pooor SAHM for using CC and how that's bad and means you don't live on one income ... but yet she uses CC and has a whole different set of standards for herself. it's bad if Jane Smith uses CC, but it's okay if hazeleyes does. That sort of hypocrisy bothers me.

Just something I recall for a previous debate about your neighborhood and the information that you have shared about those people.

So putting all of your budget (utilities, food, insurance, etc.) on a cc is ok so you can stay home with your kids but not putting emergency things on it while working.

Ah, so you don't have all the details, you are assuming.

I don't ever remember saying anything about drugs. Not that I believe every neighborhood does not have its share, it is not "out there" in mine.

I thought you were venting about something current in regards to the "system", no?

No, I am not assuming. I know the story but I also know the person who was using the wic and the other situation and they are still living there and using the wic.

Then I am confused.

It's a clear double standard.
