Staying at home a choice??

The author of this article thinks most mothers go to work because they want to, not because they have to.

"Most parents from two-parent families today do have a choice when it comes to parental care. They can try and talk themselves into believing they don't, but it really boils down to priorities."

Does anyone (other than her) really believe this? I don't know of anyone among my friends who works who wouldn't rather be staying at home with their children. But they don't have the choice!

I remember being a junior in high school during the Gulf War.

Ya' know I was going to stay out of this but the irony sorta hit me.

I'm sorry this statement is just...wrong. We have, now, quite a few posters who have been telling Hazel exactly what she should do with her life, what she can afford, and whether or not she should work and NOT ONE person here truly knows her situation. Except Hazel. Yet if she does the same thing you people jump all over her.

I've been trying to ignore most of this because quite frankly its none of my business how Hazel spends her money. If she says she can't sah, she can't sah. End of story.

All of the lawyers we know have a very good idea about what all of the other lawyers make.

"It's hard for me to see the purpose of the conversation."

To me, the purpose is to see if your savings are okay or if you need to step it up.

Big smooches to you, but as I recall, you were already doing just fine.

If your interest rate on the credit cards is higher than the rate you're getting on your savings, you might not really be "saving" money.

You speak as though Hazel started this whole thing. This all "started" when she made a passing comment to someone else (read-not you) and YOU felt the need to start in on her about her personal finances. Where I'm from thats not just considered rude, it crosses many lines. True, this is a debate board and you're free to say what you want. Hazel is free to stop telling everyone her business, and I highly recommend she do just that. She seems to be doing just fine with her life and I'm not sure why so many feel the need to tell her she isn't. Is your life perfect? Perhaps you could offer up something personal and we can all "debate" about how wrong you are. You haven't been "debating" from what I can see. You've been offering unsolicited advice and Hazel has been defending herself. Perhaps YOU need to be clear about how all of this started. Do you really think she's going to go through all of this and then bow down to your wisdom, doing everything you say she should do? The woman has a home, transportation, a good husband, both spouses have decent jobs, they have insurance, savings, enough for child care, and good credit. From where I'm standing she's seems to be doing just fine despite all your comments otherwise.
