Staying at home a choice??

The author of this article thinks most mothers go to work because they want to, not because they have to.

"Most parents from two-parent families today do have a choice when it comes to parental care. They can try and talk themselves into believing they don't, but it really boils down to priorities."

Does anyone (other than her) really believe this? I don't know of anyone among my friends who works who wouldn't rather be staying at home with their children. But they don't have the choice!

So all of your friends and neighbors are lawyers?

I can see how it would be common knowledge with government lawyers, or how it might come up in discussing calls from headhunters or negotiating a new job. I have a pretty good feel for what my lawyer friends make (although I've been out of private practice long enough that I probabky underestimate it to some degree), but I don't find that people volunteer their salary information all that often. It's pretty easy for that kind of information to become gossip fodder.

What untruths? I don't lie so I don't know what I have said that was untrue.

Don't you have friends whose kids are the same ages as your kids,

The majority of our friends are lawyers or teachers or work for the government in some capacity, yes.

First off, it IS a debate board. That means one should be careful about posting personal things because they can be brought up and debated. Sorry you think that it is rude to debate her personal issues, but in none of my posts was I rude in tone or in anything I said. She has complains incessantly about how she wants to sah, I simply pointed out the irony of that in relation to her other posts over the years.

You seem very worked up over what are basically some innocuous messages on a public debate board. Why is that?

My dd and her BF are less than a year apart. They will graduate HS in 2014 and 2015 respectively. I can't reasonably compare my savings to their savings. 1) Their income is different. They can afford to save more. 2) We may have differing goals, in terms of parental assistance. 3) The girls could easily go to schools that have widely different tuition. 4) The girls could easily go to schools that are vastly distant, geographically.
