Is staying at home a serious option for single mothers?

I've worked non-stop while having my son (now 4) and when I divorced his father before he even turned one, the idea of staying at home didn't even seem to be in the cards anywhere as a viable option. But I have seen this notion pop up both inside ivillage boards and outside, where some single moms are able to stay at home. I can't see myself wanting to do that, but HOW are they doing it and managing to survive on no income?

We just had a discussion on this, there could have been a prenup/post nup, child support and or alimony

What's probably happening is that they aren't REALLY stay-at-home moms.

They might be living on savings.

It isn't always a great option, but sometimes it can be done.

My ex and I separated when our son was 5 weeks old.

The ones I know who are doing it aren't living on "no income." They have considerable incomes due to high alimony and child support payments, because they were married to wealthy men or they are from rich families themselves.
