Yes, that does help clear things up a lot for me, thanks! I think that someone outside the church who is easily insulted might feel insulted at being denied communion at a Catholic mass. I think that a Catholic who has done something and been denied communion would be upset, but I think insulted would be the wrong word.
Anybody remember the fuss when Sally Quinn (a non Catholic) went up and took communion at Tim Russert's funeral? Nobody stopped her, but they are still shaking with indignation in some quarters.
