Exactly as I have said, I never heard the term either and have been a RC for almost 38 yrs.
I think I would take the opinions of RC's who go to mass on a regular basis for quite a few years over someone who has gone to a "few weddings" or "masses" where all different religions are present.

The word of what? Nobody said it happened at EVERY mass. But quite a few of us have been present at masses where it did happen.

"There are some Catholics who are unaware that the Roman Catholic church is a Christian denomination."

Technically, no, they shouldn't be taking it. The Eucharist is a sacrament, and there is more to taking it than "once upon a time I was baptized in this church, so gimme the wafer". In my church it's the same - membership is necessary but not sufficient for partaking of the sacrament. If your conscience and habits are out of keeping with the spirit of the church, then that is something that should be remedied beforehand. Of course, there is no policing of one's conscience, habits, etc. Again, it's an honor system. And again, not everyone abides by it.

Oh yeah....Egd and I argued about it for years. She said that "Christian" and "Catholic" were two different religion and even had an elaborate theory about when each religion was founded.

I was born and raised a Catholic, with 16 years of school age formal Catholic education. I was a Catholic until 5 years ago. I still attend Mass with my 80yo father (though I do not participate in communion). I was quite aware of the concept of open and closed communion prior to my exit from the Catholic Church.

So there you go.

I believe Forlinis is quite aware of the closed table view of Catholicism too, though she seemed to think that non-Catholics on this board were insulted by it dispite evidence to the contrary.
