YES!!! That is exactly what I have been saying. Unfortunately I think some posters have had bad experiences with HEARING about VBS's in their area (seems to me from the links non-demoninational ones) and just have written them off. There are GREAT ones around (my kids went to one and it was not our church or MAIN religion either) that do NOT push religion down their throat.
1) The people who do not wish to send their children to VBS do not wish their children to be exposed to Biblical teachings or Christianity OR wish for them to be exposed to only a certain set of teachings. They are not "misinformed" about what goes on at VBS; they simply are not interested in the songs, crafts, Bible stories, and snacks that are offered at your typical VBS.
2) Those of us who are heavily invested in VBS still recognize that there are a variety of VBS experiences available, and pick and choose which ones our kids attend.
Principals and teachers should express disapproval and teach the students not to do any bullying of any kind. But they may not tell other parents who is doing the bullying. Names are what is not allowed to tell other parents, not the other hyperbole you bring up.
Example: If your son was involved in bullying another child and the teacher, principal and parents were working on that, it would be inappropriate for the teachers who knew about it to tell other parents not to let their children play with your son and tell them about the incident(s).

If that works for you, that's fine. I have a different parenting philosophy than you, I guess.

Because in my house, what the kids WANT is not the main driver of our summers, or anything for that matter. Different parenting philosophies.
