Actually, those factors are all very relevant to how a family keeps their kids busy during the summer. If you don't want to accept that, then that's fine. But there's no getting around it.

And ya know, it just occurred to me that while VBS is not for my boys, it MIGHT be right for my daughter. Mebbe by the time she's old enough to go, there will be one in my area that I like.

One poster already said that her parents hired a college kid to stay with her because she disliked camps. My kids tended to like camps up through third or fourth grade, but once they began to actively dislike camps, we made other arrangements. It has been my experience that children who are actively unhappy find rather unpleasant ways of sharing that misery.
No realism is understanding that while your school may have a values curriculum, there are still students who do wrong. There are still students who may hurt others with words, there are children with anger and behavior issues. Anyone who says there are noi problems in my school whatsoever, ever never ever because values are so important in my children's school is not being realistic.
I woh & I am in my child's school every week, more than two days a week. What that has to do with knowing about bullying I don't know. When there are children sitting outside the principal's office, I am not privvy to why they are there, and who did what to whom. That's what it would actually take to know if bullying is going on in your school or not. And you would need to know about all those incidents every day.
I do talk to other parents in my dd's schools, at least every week, and of course it would be a different amount every week. And I talk to my children about what goes on and what other children say to them & how they treat others. And I still do not know about all incidents that happen in my children's schools.
I do belong to the PTA and go to meetings. They do not discuss bullying (or other discipline issues such as who was suspended and what for). And of course I read the principal's update/newsletter.
I still do not know about everything that goes on in the school. There are plenty of children I do not even know their names and or couldn't match a name with a face.
I am talking about realism, not posturing on a messageboard to prove what a great parent I am.
Yeah, I would be looking around for the candid cameras, LOL. Of course, I suppose if I forgot to lock the door they could bring it in and leave it for me to find in the morning.

You asked the question to keepsgettingbetter, I thought it was a good question and asked you.
So have you been to a VBS or been involved in the process in anyway, except letting the kids go to VBS?
