I was asked that too but was not "solicited" by any brochures or flyers for the church. They respected that I did not belong to their church and did belong to another one and was simply there for the VBS for my children.
Well you have just learned something today :) The church my kids went to VBS was word of mouth (by a person who doesn't even attend the school but had her children do it for years). They did ask if I attended their church but was NEVER asked again or was "soliciated" again to join their church. And just like my church is only putting it in the weekly bulletin, I can easily tell someone else, not part of my church about it and they would be able to send their children.
I was asking whether there was a mass at the end because I have never seen a mass following VBS as usually with mass, only the members of that denomination can fully participate. Usually there is some kind of service/celebration, but I have never encountered a mass after VBS.
Our VBS is held in the middle of the summer when many families are on vacation, too, but we always allow as many kids to come as the classes can hold, and there is always a wait list by about six weeks before the VBS opens. Our church is rather large, so we can hold about 200 kids, including the babies and toddlers of the volunteers, for whom we provide child care.
ITA with you. The VBS church my children went to (not a RCC) did NOT soliciate ONCE. I would have never known about it either except for word of mouth. Same with my church. These churches are NOT doing it to "solicate" new parishioners. Unfortunately it sounds like these posters churches do :(
I think that is the practice in most "mainstream" denominations, to respect the membership in other churches. Had you answered that you didn't have a church home, you might have been invited to check out their church services, etc. But probably not in a pushy way.
Your VBS sounds more like a business than a break for the kids in the summer. The "mass" was on the Sunday after the VBS and all families were invited to their regular Sunday service.
OK, I just have to ask. When they have the eucharist at the mass, isn't it a bit awkward to tell the people who aren't part of the denomination that they are not welcome to participate?

VBS is very much about outreach, ime.
