Still, it doesn't seem like they have a problem with a lot of people wanting to come to their VBS. If it were more popular, they might. Daytime VBS has been declining in many areas for years, probably because they are usually half day and it is hard for some working families to get their kids there.
I've been to many wedding masses where the priest explained canon law before inviting the congregation to participate in communion. Of course, the sky didn't fall when a non-Catholic got the cookie (as one of my heathen friends commented), but never were non-Catholics invited to participate in the holy eucharist by any member of the clery.
Yeah, I think most people do know that the Catholic church has a closed table. Most denominations do have some restrictions on who can receive communion at their eucharistic services. I belong to one of the few denominations I know of with a completely open table, which is actually one of the things I like best about it.
Here is some info on the RCC position on serving communion to non catholics
"Because Catholics believe that the celebration of the Eucharist is a sign of the reality of the oneness of faith, life, and worship, members of those churches with whom we are not yet fully united are ordinarily not admitted to Holy Communion. Eucharistic sharing in exceptional circumstances by other Christians requires permission according to the directives of the diocesan bishop and the provisions of canon law (canon 844 § 4). Members of the Orthodox Churches, the Assyrian Church of the East, and the Polish National Catholic Church are urged to respect the discipline of their own Churches. According to Roman Catholic discipline, the Code of Canon Law does not object to the reception of communion by Christians of these Churches (canon 844 § 3). "

I'm sorry she felt badly
There's nothing wrong with VBS. I'm not morally opposed to the concept. It's not like I was designing flyers for a serial killer.
It's just not an activity I want to, or want my kids to, participate in as it doens't fit with my personal beliefs.
<<Sorry but from your post all I see is a business being run and the VBS being an extra target-shrug. >>
I have seen you say that, can you explain why?
