What do you mean? There are several non-Catholics in this thread who know they are not supposed to take communion. And I am sure that Catholics who are not in a state of grace (thank you Google), or who have not followed the rules around eating beforehand, or who don't believe in transubstantiation, also know that they are not supposed to take communion.

I could not be "more aware" of what happens during a Catholic communion unless I actually went up and tried to take it. Which I would not, because of the restrictions upon it.

Most RCC weddings I have been to have not been masses. The ones that I have been have been just like a mass and did not announce it. It is usually just common knowledge.
I'm thinking that a major difference here is that you have one child under your roof and I had THREE (along with one that is disabled) and now, having remarried, I have FOUR.
That makes a HUGE difference in the "freedom" that one might have.
