Kind of like non-LDS who sneak into a Temple ritual. Not very nice. Although I admit to being curious about the rituals and have read a lot of "reports" from those who sneak in out of sheer curiousity.
I do agree that if BOTH of us were atheist, we would be highly unlikely to send our children to religious activities. Part of the reason why DH is okay with us raising our children in a conservative religion is that his side of the family has a strong history of alcoholism (several members have died from it), and he wants to cover all his bases in terms of giving his children reasons not to drink - drinking is prohibited in my religion. He doesn't believe in God, but he's willing to put the fear of God in them, LOL.
It would also probably be a lot harder to sneak into a temple ritual than to take communion at a mass. You actually have to show documentation to get into the temple, and I totally understand how it feels to be dying of curiosity about what goes on in the temple. I've read some of the "reports" also, and now that I've actually gone (not by sneaking in, lol) I tell you that the reports have me holding my sides laughing because it's like reading the script of some really lame B movie. I guess if a person is going to go through all that trouble to steal or counterfeit a temple recommend, they'll want to have something shocking to say about it. Some people REALLY need a hobby. Or money for a summer camp or some horses, LOL.
Crusader, I was thinking about this more. In a regular Catholic mass, I've never heard a priest say anything about "only Catholics in a state of grace" taking communion. I've heard this at weddings mostly, where there were bound to be some non Catholics present and perhaps unfamiliar with the practices of the church.
So perhaps you've never heard a priest say "we have a closed table" but in fact, doctrinally, the Catholic communion table IS closed.

You wouldn't. It's an honor system, and I'm sure people have broken it.
I think that's why she mentioned "faith comes from the heart, not the head."
