Oh goodness. Do we have to take this to extreme levels? Crying isnt going to hurt a baby. What do you do if you are in the shower and your baby starts to cry? There are times when a baby just cant be picked up. It certainly isnt going to hurt them.
Oh i cannot say i totally disagree with that, i think it is time to move onto other ways however it is a much more appopriate way to learn to cope with needing to comfort yourself, then sucking on your mothers nipples.
"If you actually read what I wrote you would not have come to this conclusion."
I did actually read what you wrote (see below). What other conclusion should I have come to?
<>
Am I conclude that you DON'T disagree then?
IOW, you DO believe that children have a natural, biological, instinctual need to suck as well as to nurse for comfort?
That it IS simply built in to their biology?
That they ARE programmed that way?
That these needs ARE intrinsic to them?
That they ARE universal to every child?
It's really very simple. Either you disagree (as I concluded the first time). Or you don't (see above). So which is it? You can settle this right here and now, by simply answering the question straight out. Your refusal to do so is only backing you further and further into a corner. So what's it gonna be? Are you going to tell us once and for all where you stand? Or just keep running around in circles here?
"Oh i cannot say i totally disagree with that, i think it is time to move onto other ways however it is a much more appopriate way to learn to cope with needing to comfort yourself, then sucking on your mothers nipples."
Yep, needing a blankie to learn to cope with comforting yourself is sooo much more appropriate LOL!
Sigh. Please show me the data that you have that proves what you said (that it is universal for all children)and then we can move foward. I do doubt that your theory is correct.
<<>>
Sure the need to suck is biological to children since that is their only method of eating. What I doubt is this universal theory you have.
<<>>
I really have no idea what you are talking about here. Programmed?
<<>>
Maybe??? I havent done any research on this. Have you?
<<<>>>
Still waiting for you to prove this.
<<>>
I cant answer a question without the information to do so. So are you going to come out of the hole you dug for ourself and prove that these needs are universal to EVERY child as you have claimed?
"Sigh. Please show me the data that you have that proves what you said (that it is universal for all children)and then we can move foward."
So if I show you the data, then you will answer the question straight out?
<<>>
"Sure the need to suck is biological to children since that is their only method of eating. What I doubt is this universal theory you have."
Ok. Let me get this straight. You agree that the need to suck is biological to children since that is their only method of eating? Yet you disagree that the biological need to suck is universal??? Is that correct?
<<>>
"Maybe??? I havent done any research on this. Have you"
Yes. I have. Perhaps you should too. Do some research, that is.
"I cant answer a question without the information to do so.
So you don't know whether you agree or disagree? Without someone else giving you the info to do so? Wow! Never heard that one before. BTW, I'll post the links as soon as I get back from picking up the kids :)
"Breastfeeding has taken quite a bashing over the last century. In order to rebuild acceptance of breastfeeding, breastfeeding advocates have focused on the importance its nutritive and immune support roles. BUT BREASTFEEDING IS DESIGNED TO BE MUCH MORE THAN JUST PROVIDING FOOD — IT IS A TIME FOR NURSING, A TIME FOR COMFORT AND NUTURING. This is a time for studying and memorizing each other’s faces, for speaking or singing to your baby and developing her trust and nonverbal communication."
"Babies clearly seek nursing in order to ease the pain of a bump or illness, to relieve stress or to regain security after being frightened. It’s obviously effective. AND WHENEVER ALLOWED, BABIES USUALLY ENGAGE IN COMFORT NURSING LONG AFTER NUTRITION NEEDS HAVE BEEN SATIATED, DEEPING THE SOOTHING, THE BONDING, AND THE EDUCATION RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN MOTHER AND CHILD."
"And when allowed, your baby’s powerful imprint on your pheromonal messages is second only TO HIS PROGRAMMED NEED AND YEARNING FOR SUCKING."
"THE IMPORTANCE OF SUCKING TO A BABY'S COMFORT AND WELL BEING IS WELL DEMOSTRATED. In a Chicago sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS) study, bottle-fed infants who enjoyed the added use of a pacifier (WHICH MAKES UP FOR COMFORT NURSING TIME) had only one-third the rate of SIDS as those who did not use pacifiers, and those who breastfed had only one-fifth the rate of SIDS."
"EEG STUDIES OF BABIES' BRAINS WHILE SUCKING AT THE BREAST DEMONSTRATE INCREASED ACTIVITY IN AREAS OF THE BRAIN THAT GOVERN ALERTNESS AND ATTENTION AS WELL AS IN AREAS THAT CONTROL THE CYCLE OF SLEEPING AND WAKING. Bottle-feeding produces similar but smaller changes in brain patterns."
"Many babies who are fed on strict schedules or quickly removed from the breast or bottle as soon as active feeding is done will seek a thumb or finger to suck on or take to a pacifier. THIS DEMONSTRATES THEIR STRONG INBORN REQUIREMENT FOR MORE COMFORT SUCKING."

I told you im, done.
There is nothing left to debate.

Ok. Did that.

Happy reading! BTW, here are some excerpts that I found particularly salient.

"I already told you there is noting left to talk about."
Ok. Thanks.
