Nursing does cause some women to feel touched out though. The point I was making is that not all women will feel the same way about it.
My gut reaction would be that nursing an 8 yo is a bit strange as well, but only because it is outside cultural norms. I realize that I can't possibly know this family and their motivations for doing this. It may seem exploitive in some ways but maybe this family is trying to gain some sort of acceptance for choices that lie outside of cultural norms to pave the way for future generations. Do I agree with their methods? I don't really have enough information to decide.
I hope this is clear. My kids are acting up a bit.;-)
"Maybe I am completely off the mark here and I started this thread. However people keep talking about children that are just about to enter kindy 5 or so as the max.
Why can't we all agree that 5 is way different than 8. That is where my concern is. An elementry student!!!!"
I can't really imagine my dd who is 7 still nursing, but I doubt if there is some line between 5 and 8 where BF goes from benign to abusive. Not everyone matures emotionally at the same rate. Some kids may be interested in the idea of sex at that age, but plenty are not even remotely there yet.
Haha, well maybe I just have a more agressive SO? :-)
Seriously though, Im just thinking of the fact that whether it be nursing or sexual, there is in either case a mouth enclosed over a nipple manipulating said nipple with a tongue.
To me, that is more similar than a dry peck on the cheek and a french kiss.
I know people who are now adults who BF until the age of 3-5. My best friend who BF until the age of five did not wean on her own, and was rather upset about it at the time. She'd have done it longer had her mother wanted to continue. Believe it or not she's a normal human being devoid of any independance or attatchment issues. I'm sure she'd be even if she *had* BF till she was 8. How many people really do it for that long anyway? One in a million? What makes you so sure that it's detrimental?
I persoanlly think it is a stage in the childs development. AS the parent i believe we have to help promote proper habits in development.
I would not claim b/f a eight year old abusive, it view it as unnecessary and innappropriate in raising happy healthy self sufficent well rounded children.
You are completely missing the point. I had a problem with the way you were communicating your point. You say it one way and mean something different. It is not my fault if I interpret things the way you say them.

Then what are you referring to? It was what i was referring to.
You seem to have hang ups that nursing is a stimulate for arousal and produces oxytocin the cuddle hormone.

Honestly? Not really. They are really that different. At least to me.

You gave me chills. I too feel that is the way God designed it.
