Top 3 Excuses I Can't Stand from WOHMs..

1. We NEED two incomes to survive... Yeah Right! I honestly believe that out of the people that say this 90% would be just fine if they would cut their lifestyle, move to a cheaper area and sacrifice. I am not buying it one bit when people say this.

2. I put my kid in Daycare for the socialization.. Good grief, how much socialization does a 10 month old need?? Besides there are better ways to much socialize young children.

3. I am a better mom if I work outside the home.. UGHH! How in the world do you think you are a better mom by handing your kid off to Grandma or someone else to raise while you go work?? Unless you are going to beat them or verbally abuse them, I always think at home with mom is where kids thrive the most..

THere are others I can't stand, but these are my top 3. Have at it..

again, it's all "life with alyssa"...we have a very laissez faire attitude about her care where things like that are concerned. I'm glad i have the sisters that I do as they understand the logistics of taking care of a child like her.

So from the POV of a 3yo, how does a diaper change of a 13yo on the couch fit in with learning about privacy, hygiene, etc.? Is the privacy of a 13yo less important if she has special needs? Are some people's private parts okay to be casually seen by a 3yo while others' aren't? Too many issues here for me to be comfortable with doing things that way. And this is pretty much not in the same league with issues about frankness or openness wrt bodily functions, etc.

I understand and FWIW I approve, but I'd worry for the 3yo.

well it's certainly not my call of course, it's Carole's family and her situation. I think that i'd be inclined to just treat it as matter of factly as she does especially considering that it's family.

I don't "need" to say anything "so badly." But thanks, and I'm sorry to hear of your anxiety.

Everyone should have kids. They are the greatest joy in the world. But they are also terrorists. You'll realize this as soon as they are born, and they start using sleep deprivation to break you.

Again, for us, it's just "life with Alyssa". We've been taking care of her for 13 years. We just don't make a big deal about it. No one in my family does. So she needs an occasional diaper change on the couch???? I'm just not seeing the big deal here. There was NO other place to take her that would be comfortable or appropriate. Upstairs? no. Bathroom floor? yuck. floor in the den? have you ever even TRIED to life a 60 pounder with NO muscle tone off of the floor??? LOL! No, the couch was the best bet.

Sister had no trouble with it at all. No one in my family sees it as unusual or strange or inappropriate. It's just "life with Alyssa".

don't worry about her 3-year old. My sister didn't see anything wrong with it. Just a quick explanation -- the "fur" is hair because Alyssa is an older girl. When you get older you'll have some hair there too.

Of course, that also goes along with my niece asking my sister why her skin is so "big" (aka....boobs!). My sister told her that when she gets older she'll have "big" skin too, LOL!

Again, answers are given on an age-appropriate basis -- and no one is made to feel ashamed or embarrassed.

living alone with Liza she's seen me naked so many times and has asked all those same questions -- she's much more matter of fact and less "tee heee' giggly about the human body than her friends are
