Top 3 Excuses I Can't Stand from WOHMs..

1. We NEED two incomes to survive... Yeah Right! I honestly believe that out of the people that say this 90% would be just fine if they would cut their lifestyle, move to a cheaper area and sacrifice. I am not buying it one bit when people say this.

2. I put my kid in Daycare for the socialization.. Good grief, how much socialization does a 10 month old need?? Besides there are better ways to much socialize young children.

3. I am a better mom if I work outside the home.. UGHH! How in the world do you think you are a better mom by handing your kid off to Grandma or someone else to raise while you go work?? Unless you are going to beat them or verbally abuse them, I always think at home with mom is where kids thrive the most..

THere are others I can't stand, but these are my top 3. Have at it..

i couldn't agree more. my kids are more quiet, calm tempered and lower energy than others..they don't need a sort of outside arrangement that *forces* anything or gym, sports immediately following school because they need to break a buried energy from sitting in school all day. to each certainly their own. :)

our current hoa allows us about five different neighborhood pools to frequent....we just returned from one that the kids love. slides, water sprinkler thingys..and i love it because i always see my same mom friends with their little ones, too - sahms or moms who have the summers off because they teach.

that sounds like a great pool! I love our condo's pool b/c it's a perfect size and we always see lots of the condo kids that Liza likes to play with (it's funny every winter you never see much of your neighbors b/c you're all indoors hibernating , then every summer at th epool we marvel at how much the kids have grown) -- I have no idea if their moms SAHM, WOHM or WAHM, I never asked and I don't really care. They're all just nice people with nice kids that Liza enjoys seeing. There are nice picnic tables and lounge chaiirs and shade if for breaks from the sun. Liza often has a friend over to stay all afternoon at eht pool and then for dinner and I love it b/c I can swim with them and then take breaks to read while they play with each other -- and on my 'non Liza' nights kelly and I often play tennis at the courts next to the pool then shower and go for a swim. It's like living in a country club to me! LOL

You must live in Kansas. Or some other place with a dirt cheap COL. Even if all WOHMs decided to quit their jobs and move to a cheaper area, do you have any idea how much it costs to relocate a household? And do you realize what chaos our society would be in if all the women scientists, doctors, engineers, lawyers, nurses, etc., left the expensive east and west coasts to move to, say, Nebraska?

I agree with you about #2, though. No baby needs socialization. But I have never heard any parent say he or she works just because the child needs daycare for socialization. Where did you come up with that?

And as for #3, WOH goes far beyond just wanting to get away from the children so you won't abuse them. Surely you realize that? If working is satisfying to the mother, she is a happier person. Numerous studies have shown that emotionally stable, happy parents are more likely to have happy children.

And finally, but most significantly, why on earth do you think that any WOHM must "excuse" herself? If you do genuinely care about the well-being of families in our society, what are you doing to make things better for those who do work?

I'm curious, who said anything about an arrangement that "forces" anything?
