Unique contributions to society

In another thread, the "unique" contributions of SAHM's were alluded to but it wasn't stated what they are. Let's play a game and find out what they are. First, pretend that as of tomorrow, all moms SAH and detail what will be missing from society then pretend that all moms go to work and detail what will be missing from society. I'm really curious as to what people think a world without SAHM's orWOHM's would look like.

If all the moms who SAH went to work then the library would move story hour to the evening and summer vacation bible school would be held in the evenings so that all kids can attend and not just the kids of SAHM's. Banks would likely shift their hours to later in the day and you'd see more 24 hour stores. I think there would be more home cooking style restaurants too. I think day care centers would improve because of increased demand.

If all moms who WOH suddenly SAH, you'd see fewer service industries around because moms could do things themselves instead of paying for them. The nursing shortage would be more of a shortage. We'd probably have a shortage of teachers too. There'd be fewer government services because there'd be less tax dollars to pay for them. I can't think of anything else right now.

Why would it be pushing if the child wants to learn more?

I agree im quite confindent that children 0-5 do not thrive in all day, day care....i dont view that as preschool, imo it is day care.

I realize many familes have no choice but it does not mean the child thrives b/c of the choice to leave the child all day in the enviornment.

Are you suggesting that SAHM's are MORE LIKELY to abuse their children than WOHP's? Do you have any research that even hints that a SAHM is statistically more prone to abuse her child than a WOHP, or than a person with a high school diploma making $14,000 per year and four other children to diaper, feed, and rock to sleep? Please.

I think she's referring to the statistics that show a child is more likely to be abused by a parent or other close relative than they are to be abused by a dcp.

But my boy does not enjoy being so advanced for no reaons other to be advanced for the stat of the school.

IMO there is no logic in haivng a 10 year old read on a high school level. WHY?

I want him to learn how to focus on realistic values.

Like greeting ppl as they enter a room.

You stated <> and I asked for examples....so I am asking if your examples all meet the preschool, group care and education on a regular basis.

Yes there is. The logic would be "because the child can do it naturally, easily and has achieve that reading level with no pushing; because the child is a naturally good reader who loves to read."

My parents were so not "pushy" parents. They were ridiculously laid back and never pushed me into anything. But I was reading at a high school level by age 10. It just came naturally to me.

We've never pushed my dd. We haven't provided her any special opportunities. But she's an early 5th grader reading on a late 7th grade level. It's just natural for her.

And my son, he's a very young first grader, doing late 2nd grade level math. Math is a natural aptitude for him. No one *taught* him early or pushed him into it. It just is.
