Unique contributions to society

In another thread, the "unique" contributions of SAHM's were alluded to but it wasn't stated what they are. Let's play a game and find out what they are. First, pretend that as of tomorrow, all moms SAH and detail what will be missing from society then pretend that all moms go to work and detail what will be missing from society. I'm really curious as to what people think a world without SAHM's orWOHM's would look like.
If all the moms who SAH went to work then the library would move story hour to the evening and summer vacation bible school would be held in the evenings so that all kids can attend and not just the kids of SAHM's. Banks would likely shift their hours to later in the day and you'd see more 24 hour stores. I think there would be more home cooking style restaurants too. I think day care centers would improve because of increased demand.
If all moms who WOH suddenly SAH, you'd see fewer service industries around because moms could do things themselves instead of paying for them. The nursing shortage would be more of a shortage. We'd probably have a shortage of teachers too. There'd be fewer government services because there'd be less tax dollars to pay for them. I can't think of anything else right now.

Yes, that included day cares.

My problem right now is that aftercare at our school is full. I am lucky my dh is flexible with his job. I am trying to go to 7-3 in order to have more time at night.
Next year I can go ft 7-3 with aftercare. At our school though you have to use aftercare for 5 days. They do not do it part-time.

It's funny, good quality dcp's aren't either.

You said....<<Many people see a difference between putting an infant or toddler in a group setting and putting a 5-yr-old in a group setting (educational or otherwise). >>
I'm asking...Are you one of those people that sees the difference?

Depends if they go back to their original job, or find new employment. I've known some women who did quit their old job, and found new ones later, sometimes for less pay than they made before so they could have the flexibility.
Edited: and one woman I know personally found work for something she wasn't trained in originally, so she could get that flexibility. Not all women have office jobs... some do work at retail stores.

You don't agree that the wohm is this case is doing everything that the sahm does, plus working.

Never stated anything along those lines.

Okay, but again, never stated anything along those lines.

Along with the comments that you haven't read the last few posts...is that the post you are talking about?

Im still confused...So how is 'School' not a good enough reason to start sending your child there at 5? You've asked why it's suddenly ok to send your child to school to be watched by someone else... School is different from day care.. it's education.
I'm sending my child to school at the right age... because, it's school. Simple as that
I have not used daycare personally, I just dont really want to... And we dont have to.
If you want to play devils advocate her fine... You've misconstrued most of my posts. I was trying to say in previous posts, that a parent is not needed as much during the school hours because there is no child physically in the house during that time to watch... You started going on about why it's acceptable to send a child to free school... when the parent didn't want to pay for daycare...
I guess my final response in this whole matter is... whatever. I'm going to send my child to school, because it's "school". @@
