"We don 't believe in that [WOHM]"

On Friday, as I was driving hom from work, I stumbled across an interview with the wife of the one surviving miner from the collapse in WVa. In the course of the interview, someone asked her if she worked.

Her response was that they don't believe in that. She explained that her husband was very proud of the fact that he was the sole supporter of the family, and that he didn't need her help in supporting them. She explained that they just don't believe in women working after they have kids and husbands, and that they believe her place is at home with the kids.

My heart really goes out to her, and this post isn't about her, but about the sentiment that women shouldn't work because their place is at home. And being a real man, even if it means working in dangerous conditions, long hours, holding two jobs and being a step away from poverty at every turn, means that your wife doesn't work.

I suppose this is the first time that I've heard someone, not a movie character or a character in a book, express this sentiment. I don't understand why anyone would be proud to limit their spouse's potential. Or why be proud that you live right on the poverty line?

If they didn't see the dangers of their POV before, surely that entire community, and even the whole country, has now seen the risk that we talk about on here all the time, the risk that suddenly the SAHM will need to find a way to financially support the family. I wonder if anyone will re-think what they believe in.

We've already established in another debate that Felicia is in no position whatsoever to hire lawyers or decide who is and who is not fit to work for her company.

"We've" done no such thing. endlessly repeating your lie doesn't make it any less a lie.

The *only* thing the verbiage SAHM or WOHM defines is a person's work status.>>

I'm a SAHM, and I agree with your definition.

IKWYM, but I usually think of "sah to raise my kids" as meaning something more like "sah to focus primarily on raising my kids". Sometimes obituaries read more or less that way.

And it really doesn't make any difference what that seems like to you. A hot button does not equate to "hostile."

So how's the WAH business?

Do you regularly read obituaries?

If you want to walk down ENglish grammar lane go ahead. You asked me specifically..ANY POST OF MINE...Not Any post where I said that. If you wanted me to show you where you said it...I would have said you didn't. You asked me what post of yours said such a thing....I showed it to you. For that matter...I answered your post in regards to your OP correctly...You are the one that took it in another direction. You asked me a hypothetical...I answered hypothetically...then you turned it into...Well it would be hard for my DH to support me...I am a single mom. You are the one spinning this thread...not me.

<> I'm sure it does. Doesn't surprise me you would think that. You're grasping at straws. Again.

Try to keep up.

You're asking an awful lot; your lies are legion.
