"We don 't believe in that [WOHM]"

On Friday, as I was driving hom from work, I stumbled across an interview with the wife of the one surviving miner from the collapse in WVa. In the course of the interview, someone asked her if she worked.

Her response was that they don't believe in that. She explained that her husband was very proud of the fact that he was the sole supporter of the family, and that he didn't need her help in supporting them. She explained that they just don't believe in women working after they have kids and husbands, and that they believe her place is at home with the kids.

My heart really goes out to her, and this post isn't about her, but about the sentiment that women shouldn't work because their place is at home. And being a real man, even if it means working in dangerous conditions, long hours, holding two jobs and being a step away from poverty at every turn, means that your wife doesn't work.

I suppose this is the first time that I've heard someone, not a movie character or a character in a book, express this sentiment. I don't understand why anyone would be proud to limit their spouse's potential. Or why be proud that you live right on the poverty line?

If they didn't see the dangers of their POV before, surely that entire community, and even the whole country, has now seen the risk that we talk about on here all the time, the risk that suddenly the SAHM will need to find a way to financially support the family. I wonder if anyone will re-think what they believe in.

Oh, so the legal profession as a whole is completely dishonest?

Then I suppose you will never marry, because that would require entering into a contract. And you'll never write a will, or sign an employment contract, or take over guardianship of an elderly parent, or accept someone's power of attorney, or anything else of that nature, since the entire profession is completely dishonest and you want no part in it. I guess you also don't want criminal prosecuted or companies defended in frivolous suits? And you'll never buy or sell anything of value (like real property) again.

Or do you use it when it suits you (like getting married and writing wills, etc.), but then disparage the people who work in the prefession that you have just used?

LOL, such backpedaling! Such a lame attempt to pretend you did NOT predict doom and eternal brattiness for my child based on the fact you're mad I think you shouldn't tempt a 1 year old when you can't even control yourself. Serve you right that you are clearly caught out; I clearly stated earlier in this thread that my child is 23. AND I said it to YOU.

So the next time you want to whinge about people not reading the whole thread, you might consider the hypocrisy of it all...

And that post did not contain me saying that you were a lawyer.

Hmm. I also used to take my kids to dc. So I could work. I was a WOHP. But when your kid is in dc, and you're earning income, you're not a working parent. You manage to combine everything at once. Remarkable.

You have too many rules that you want others to conform to.

You don't like...I SAH to raise my children.
You don't like how I define myself. Too bad. Don't like it...don't respond to my posts.

<>

I never claimed (and quote where I stated) that I knew the entire legal profession. I knew it from my view point work for a few different attorneys. I hated it. I worked for a Plaintiff attorney which I mistakenly thought would be better than a defense attorney I worked for (that crap I could not stomach at all) and that was just as bad.

<< But heaven knows the world needs more nurses, so it's nice that you went into a medical field>>

I would normally take that as a nice comment but coming from you I am sure that was meant sarcastically.

"I was talking about the legal profession as a whole."

You cannot extrapolate from one med mal practice to the whole profession.
