"We don 't believe in that [WOHM]"

On Friday, as I was driving hom from work, I stumbled across an interview with the wife of the one surviving miner from the collapse in WVa. In the course of the interview, someone asked her if she worked.

Her response was that they don't believe in that. She explained that her husband was very proud of the fact that he was the sole supporter of the family, and that he didn't need her help in supporting them. She explained that they just don't believe in women working after they have kids and husbands, and that they believe her place is at home with the kids.

My heart really goes out to her, and this post isn't about her, but about the sentiment that women shouldn't work because their place is at home. And being a real man, even if it means working in dangerous conditions, long hours, holding two jobs and being a step away from poverty at every turn, means that your wife doesn't work.

I suppose this is the first time that I've heard someone, not a movie character or a character in a book, express this sentiment. I don't understand why anyone would be proud to limit their spouse's potential. Or why be proud that you live right on the poverty line?

If they didn't see the dangers of their POV before, surely that entire community, and even the whole country, has now seen the risk that we talk about on here all the time, the risk that suddenly the SAHM will need to find a way to financially support the family. I wonder if anyone will re-think what they believe in.

No problem, too bad your "reading comprehension" is way off though. Once again, where did I state that the legal profession as a whole is dishonest????????????????????

Actually, I have been laughing the entire time on here. The way people get on here cracks me up.

Ouch there was no need for that post. And BTW...many people have their kids far apart not due to choice but due to issues out of their control. And you *might* want to be sensitive to that possibility.

Please, show me where you "clearly stated" you're child is 23? And how am I backpedaling? I do stand by I AM NOT TEMPTING MY SON, so get off it. This is a time where we agree to disagree. Serves me right? What serves me right?

I can get that an infant is different from a five year old and even that an infant's needs for stability, consistency, presence of the mother for establishing nursing if that is a goal, is critical. What I don't get is that a five year old and a four year old are all that different in terms of "I can't possibly leave my four year old with a qualified daycare provider" but somehow afterschool care and camps (which in my experience vary WIDELY in quality) will be fine for a five year old.

Are you saying the legal profession as a whole is dishonest?

What schedule do you pay your taxes on based on the income you earn?

I am not going to keep explaining the same thing over and over. Read my past post. I never stated the whole legal profession was dishonest. I stated repeatedly now that my view is from my experience (limited) in MY area.

You asked: "... now where does it say I was talking about the whole legal profession?????????"

Right here, in sentence number 3: "I was talking about the legal profession as a whole. "

<<I also stated that my view was limited from my experience. >>

So from your limited view based on your limited experience the entire profession is dishonest?
