"We don 't believe in that [WOHM]"

On Friday, as I was driving hom from work, I stumbled across an interview with the wife of the one surviving miner from the collapse in WVa. In the course of the interview, someone asked her if she worked.

Her response was that they don't believe in that. She explained that her husband was very proud of the fact that he was the sole supporter of the family, and that he didn't need her help in supporting them. She explained that they just don't believe in women working after they have kids and husbands, and that they believe her place is at home with the kids.

My heart really goes out to her, and this post isn't about her, but about the sentiment that women shouldn't work because their place is at home. And being a real man, even if it means working in dangerous conditions, long hours, holding two jobs and being a step away from poverty at every turn, means that your wife doesn't work.

I suppose this is the first time that I've heard someone, not a movie character or a character in a book, express this sentiment. I don't understand why anyone would be proud to limit their spouse's potential. Or why be proud that you live right on the poverty line?

If they didn't see the dangers of their POV before, surely that entire community, and even the whole country, has now seen the risk that we talk about on here all the time, the risk that suddenly the SAHM will need to find a way to financially support the family. I wonder if anyone will re-think what they believe in.

<

Bush and his cronies are turning this place into a facist state and half the countryside is basically saluting Il Duce.>>

I totally agree. President Bush could care less about the average Americans Constitutional Rights. I find it so troubling, that most Americans don't care, because they are only wire-tapping on " supposed terrorist". They don't see the big picture. SAD

signed,
considerate.

p.s. have you even read cmkathi's last post just today? a healthy read if you get a chance.

I dunno why you're claiming *now* that "fired" is a term I'm pulling out of thin air and all as a personal attack on you (hence your less than subtle reference to cmkathi's post). I simply used the EXACT term YOU USED on this very board. (I placed emphasis below so you could see the quote.)

"....is a short cash drawer basis for firing someone if the drawer is used by everyone? i am not retail savy by any means but if there is one thing on my side, it was working with money and customer service (because of my banking years). at this particular hallmark, two cash drawers are used all day. you don't just have your drawer and close up your drawer when your shift is over.

You wrote that post to Virgo on Veteran's Day, at 11:17 pm. (http://messageboards.ivillage.com/iv-pssahwoh/?msg=16310.12).

I'm sure your apology to me will be swift and sincere.

gee..an apology? why on earth why jzygayle? you are taking a considerate conversation between myself and virgo (in personal messages i might add) to support something you answer and show for here? why would you even make such effort to respond on *my* behalf to goddess lonestarmom when in all fairness, you weren't even a supportive muscle to my losing my job before this? please..it's quite obvious.

(sounds similar to something my 8 year old child would vent to me about that a playground friend would do in which i respond, "ignore...you're so much better than that".)

Well, it isn't my choice to have kids 5+ yrs apart, but I'm infertile, so I really don't have a choice in the matter.

Obviously you're a newbie, so here's a bit of advice. THINK BEFORE YOU TYPE.

What the heck was that for? I just asked a question about billing. That was really unnecessary. I even stated "I was just curious". I never worked with billing at all and could not remember since it has been like 8 years since I worked for an attorney. I never billed for my time.

Huh? Are you serious?

I do not even know how to respond. Someone posted to pumpkinangel (I think ut was her) about being on here too much and I thought it was ridiculous considering the number of posts on here the last two days.

And had your comments been about YOUR time online, I'd have had no response. How you spend your time is your business. when you say, "I think pretty much everyone is guilty of too much computer time on this thread." Then you've stopped talking about your own personal time and made a judgment about everyone's time. I just don't think you're in any position to decide on that.

And since you are the only one with an issue, I will let it go and consider the source.

And no response to my post to you #896?

What response did you want? You asked about two kinds of lawyers and asked which ones billed or didn't. I commented there are more kinds of lawyers than just those two and some of them bill, some don't and that I was sure it was an unintentional oversight on your part.

Can't even imagine why you feel I need to explain why I posted it.
