"We don 't believe in that [WOHM]"

On Friday, as I was driving hom from work, I stumbled across an interview with the wife of the one surviving miner from the collapse in WVa. In the course of the interview, someone asked her if she worked.
Her response was that they don't believe in that. She explained that her husband was very proud of the fact that he was the sole supporter of the family, and that he didn't need her help in supporting them. She explained that they just don't believe in women working after they have kids and husbands, and that they believe her place is at home with the kids.
My heart really goes out to her, and this post isn't about her, but about the sentiment that women shouldn't work because their place is at home. And being a real man, even if it means working in dangerous conditions, long hours, holding two jobs and being a step away from poverty at every turn, means that your wife doesn't work.
I suppose this is the first time that I've heard someone, not a movie character or a character in a book, express this sentiment. I don't understand why anyone would be proud to limit their spouse's potential. Or why be proud that you live right on the poverty line?
If they didn't see the dangers of their POV before, surely that entire community, and even the whole country, has now seen the risk that we talk about on here all the time, the risk that suddenly the SAHM will need to find a way to financially support the family. I wonder if anyone will re-think what they believe in.

Hi guys,
I'm just catching up on the board now, so sorry if this is coming a bit late! I get the feeling that this thread has developed into an endless loop with a lot of veiled personal attacks and I'm very worried that it might be closed, or that members might get warned and/or banned.
It is scary until something happens to you and than you are glad to have the police able to search a premises quickly.
We had an incident in my area not that long ago where a child was missing. There was a description of the person she left with and it fit a few people in the area. Anyway, long story short, the police searched a few homes and the girl was found alive and fine. However, a couple of the people who had their houses searched complained that the police a no probable cause to search their premises.
Maybe it is just me, but if my child were missing I could care less how the police found him/her.
Nope. You're talking to a Libertarian here. Don't assume you know how I'd feel or react. Protection of rights is extremely important to me.

Did they have probably cause? That's the question.
I don't doubt that some cops have never been denied a warrant. But, a really good cop (not good as in "not crooked" but good as in "excellent at their job") shouldn't be denied. Because a really good cop knows what constitutes probably cause and should know whether or not they have enough for a warrant. A cop that prepares good warrants should never be denied. It's those that aren't so good at their job (either just not good at it or those that are crooked cops) that worry me.
Wait until it's your home that the police have gone through and confiscated stuff with little to no probably cause. The fourth amendment is there for a reason.
Just an honest question...not trying to be mean. If your child's father was an abusive man, and insisted that if he had to pay child support, then he wanted his child every week, and would harrass you until he got that, would you continue to contact with him? If every single time you heard from him it was because he was harrasing you, would that child support be all that important? If your HEALTH was suffering due to the stress he put you through, including threatening to take your child from you because you had no court order, at the time, to keep him from doing that, would it seem worth it? If even AFTER the court ordered child support and visitation he STILL threatened to take your child from you, on his days to have her, and leave the state, would it THEN seem worth it? Would his demanding to keep your child every other week at his apartment (whom he lives with a roomate, and who's other child comes to stay with him every other week, and sleep in his bed because there is no room for her otherwise) from THE DAY OF BIRTH, and all the stress it entails to explain to an ignorant, hardly educated man, just WHY he can'd do that. There are some instances in which demanding the child support just is not worth it. If I were to send him to jail due to it, he would make my life a living hell. I am not willing to go through that, or put my son through it.
I see how it is harder for you now that you have a bigger family, but I would have to say that, compared to what Kaden's father has put me through, I would take the big family ANY day! He has threatened me, my family, threatened to basicaly kidnapp my son (this would be after the court order, so yes indeed, kidnapping), threatened my friends, made my life HELL for nearly two years. I am more than happy to struggle to keep afloat financially, than have to deal with his crap. I can only hope that one day I have a husband, and *maybe* more kids, and my dogs, to have to deal with. A family, that's what it's all about, IMHO. Please remember, this is only my opinion, I know other people's situations are different.
Well, you know my answer to that; if it's that easy, then go get it. :) The founding fathers didn't just pull this stuff out of their butts when they put it in the constitution; they'd LIVED in a society with no presumption of innocence, and like it or not, our legal system's foundation resides on that presumption.
Get the warrant.
