When we were kicking around names for DD1 DH came home from work one day and suggested XXX. I told him I hated it and would never name by daugther that. The next day at work the name kept going through my mind and when I got home I told him that if we had a girl that would be her name.

DD2 first name was the title of DH's favorite song right before we met and her middle name is after my mom.

If we ever had a son we had planned to name him after DH and call him C.J. When our third and last turned out to be a girl we decided to keep the C.J. so seeked names to fit those initials (although we ended up not calling her by her initials). It ended up being a compromise, DH chose the first name and I chose the middle name.

Each of my children has a 'name' of their own and a name that has a tie with another family member.

Stacy's 'real' first name is Anastasia. I'd always wanted to name a daughter Anastasia as I was intrigued by the story of the Romanov family. When I realized that the name meant 'resurrection' or 'new life' it seemed perfect. . .as dh and I were forging a new life together. Her middle name is Elizabeth, as is mine.

Gillian's name originated from our love of the X Files, but ironically it means 'downy haired youth' and she's our curly haired blond. Her middle name is Alexandra, inspired by the Romanov family and her sister Anastasia.

Matthew's name is really David Matthew. My dh and I LOVE the Dave Matthews Band. My father's name was David which means 'beloved one' and as the ONLY grandson on my my side of the family and at least the only grandson so far on dh's. . he is beloved. Matthew means "gift from God" and after 10 years of trying AND being told he was going to be a Stephanie. . .having a Matthew was a gift of God.

We both just really liked Savannah (Savannah Chase, full name). And it sealed the deal when we realized Jimmy Buffett's daughter is named Savannah (Savannah Jane). We had actually considered Jane for our dd's middle name, but although we liked the "tie-in" to JB, we didn't want people to think we copied.

Callahan Patrick ... we wanted something Irish. WE're both Irish in some way. But stbxh didn't like any of the more unusual irish names (Liam, Kieran) and I didn't like the common ones (Ryan, Patrick, Murphy). So we looked at Irish last names, and Callahan won.

Incidentally, if it had been my decision alone, Cal would have been Adamson Lee Morris. Adamson is my maiden name; Lee is stbxh's middle name. It would have started a tradition by continuing something my parents started -- my brother is Wilson John Adamson; my mother's maiden name is Wilson and my dad's name is Johnny.

Taylor was named by an ex boyfriend of mine. We had picked Taylor as the middle name for a boy, but were having trouble with girl's names, and he suggested using Taylor for a girl. At the time, there were NO girls named Taylor. Two years later, it was in the top 10 names for girls. It's her dad's mother's maiden name. Her middle name is my mother's middle name.

Logan was just a name dh and I both liked. I tell people he's named after Wolverine, which isn't entirely a joke, since I've liked the name ever since his character was introduced. His middle name is Clark, which is dh's middle name, which is his mother's maiden name. She's a direct descendent of the explorer, but there were no men to carry on the name in her particular branch of the family tree, since her brother died without fathering any children.

We didn't know the sexes of any of our babies ahead of time, so we had the difficult task of having to choose two names. And dh and I have different tastes! For our dd, Marie, I have no idea how we came up with that name. I like traditional, classic but not trendy names. Turned out that Marie (unbeknownst to me or dh) was dh's great-grandmother's first name.

I *always* liked the name Dominic, and fortunately dh did too. I'm half-Italian, and since I married an Irishman, I wanted to have some of my heritage show up LOL. That was on our list when we had our dd, so we were able to use it the second time. Thank god b/c we couldn't agree on girl names.

With our third, we honestly could not decide on names. My water broke two weeks early, and while I was packing my bag, dh sat at the table with the baby name book trying to find something. We had sorta agreed on Joseph if it was a boy but hadn't made a definite decision. We went into the delivery w/o a girl's name, and thankfully had a boy LOL. Joseph is a big family name on my side (grandfather and uncle as first name, middle name for my other grandfather, plus dh's great-grandfather was Joseph).

We just liked our first daughter's name and knowing it was my great great grandmother's name sealed it.

Our second's name changed a couple of minutes before her head emerged, by my husband's insistance. Her name has several very personal meanings to our family.

My husband picked our son's name and there was no changing his mind. Though I tried, right up until I signed the birth certificate.

Andrew Michael was named after his great grandfather

Joshua David (JD) is also a family name.

Jessie Christine was a name that I liked plus Chistine is my given name though I don't go by it.

Tyler Charles just sounds down right classy.

So there you have it, my children's names and their appropriate histories.

Tyler Wayne came from we like the name Tyler and Wayne from my dad would have been Megan Leigh

Lucas James came from well dh picked that one and james for his dad woulc have been Hayley

Jeremy Reid (We were REALLY hoping for a girl) I was actually in labor and we still did not have a name for a boy... we had Miranda or Rebecca picked out for girls... and that day on loving was also Jeremy from All My Children Fame too... and I liked the name and dh was out of the room and had no idea... ROFL... don't tell him he liked the name too... though I think it should have been Jeremiah now. and reid came from my grandfather. I wanted to use Jeff's mom's maiden name which was Brannen as a middle name but he didn't.

I always liked names dh was afraid to use... like Hunter and I LOVED the name Harley.
