you don't consider feeding bathing and putting a child to bed 'parenting" -- that's pretty much what I do every night-- pick up, feed, watch tv, do chores, get her in and out of the shower, cuddle on the bed for more tv and she's in bed by 9 (she's 9 and a half an din fourth grade)

how is that not parenting?

Yes. We. Did.

So you are going by what you see on reality TV?

My kid did not watch Disney movies, although all the SAHMs in my area parked their kids in front of those blasted things day in and day out.

There is good parenting and bad parenting. Sometimes good parents work and sometimes they don't. Sometimes bad parents work and sometimes they don't. Good parenting has nothing to do with work status. You happened to have inadequate parents who worked. That does not mean that all working parents are inadequate.

Apart from that, not all working is equal. Dh and I are self-employed, for example. We are set up in such a way that dd has had minimal othercare. Other people work PT, work opposite shifts etc. Nor is all othercare equal. Not surprisingly good parents tend to choose othercare well and make sure that the situation suits their kid. So, again it comes down to parenting not work status or whether you use othercare.

--What is the point of staying at home then? Ugh...some people...Once in awhile for entertainment and quiet time. I have awhile before that.
