What about eating issues?
| Fri, 06-10-2005 - 2:24pm |
We have debated sleeping issues to death once again....so what about another one of the issues of childhood....eating and/or not eating?
My kids eat just about anything and have a pretty well rounded diet.

As Bianca posted below, there is no research that proves that sugar makes *anyone* hyper. Thats an old wives tale. Although there might be a select few in the world who have severe reactions to processed sugar, like an allergy. But in that case they wouldnt be able to eat natural sugars either, because our bodies process both pretty much the same.

Eh, count me in as an odd duck too.
My kids and I have so many wonderful memories together. I will never regret that extra time.

You're no odd duck.
Last summer we chose to fence our backyard *before* doing any landscaping (we couldnt afford both at once). I was willing to go one more year with a *rock and weed yard* rather than risk my dogs getting loose/hurt. I love having a fenced yard!!! Ours is cedar though, so its very private, which is nice with my rather loudmouthed dogs who bark at everything!

I just cannot see myself even *wanting* to wear something for 10 years, no matter the quality or price. I would be so sick of seeing myself in it! I would just feel like it was old and dirty (even if it wasn't).
Dh buys great quality suits, but I think that expecting 10 years out of a dry-cleaned suit is totally pushing it. It's clothing, not tungsten.

Okay, here's the deal. If you were my RL friend, I would drag your apathetic, overly conservative starched butt down to J. Jill and Anthropologie and get you excited about some comfortable feminine casual clothing. (Nothing lined, no creases, very little structure, feminine, comfortable, perhaps even whimsical.) Then I would make you peruse catalogs from Athleta, Patagonia, REI, and Title 9 Sports so you could find some exercise gear that feels so good, you'd want to wear it even when not exercising.
Stretch a little. Be creative. Change your style. FIND your style. You are defining the concept stuck in a rut. It's okay not to project a lawyerly image every minute of every day. Your job will still be there Monday morning no matter how you dress on Saturday.
In my mom's group, the saying is "Friends don't let friends shop at Ann Taylor."
(This is all meant to be friendly advice, not a criticism lest Luvthebabes comes running after me with the butcher knife once again.)
Oh, I love Anthropologie! I like looking at J.Jill but the shirts are all cut too short for my body.
I agree. PNJ...maybe cut loose a little bit? To be honest, I've been pushing the envelope myself. Like tonight. Sil called and asked if I wanted to take the girls to see their 10 year old cousin's base ball game. A little over an hour away. I did, they had fun and I had fun too!
Vivi screamed the whole ride home. We didn't get home till about an hour and 1/2 past their bed time. But, you know what? It was worth it, totally. Maybe tomorrow will suck attitude wise, but so what? It would have sucked today to just stay home and miss the game. Chris had a great hit and I saw some other 10 year old lay an incredible bunt. Oh, and Vivi took her first steps in the park and Aspen had a blast going down a twisty slide a hundred times.
I've learned a little bit from each of the ladies who post... maybe you could put away the pleated shorts?

"I assume adult guests can manage their own food issues without my help, or their moms. If they have an allergy, its their responsibility to let me know."
Yes. Absolutely. I mean, it's only fair. I'm allergic to nuts. And anyone who knows me well, and has me to dinner, knows that. And usually things are fine because they "get it". I warn them, I make sure that they know I won't be eating anything with any sort of nut in it.
However, say I was at work, and there was a luncheon...I'd ask people really politely not to add nuts to their dishes, maybe keep them on the side, put aside a small portion for me, or at least let me know if the items have nuts so I don't get a nasty surprise. But I don't expect them to never bring nuts at all. Sometimes there ends up being very little I can eat, and if that happens, I eat somewhere else.
On the other hand I have a very mild allergy-I have a friend that can't be in the room when fish is even being cooked or she'll end up in the ER. But yes...the person really needs to be proactive about the allergy.
