What about eating issues?

We have debated sleeping issues to death once again....so what about another one of the issues of childhood....eating and/or not eating?

My kids eat just about anything and have a pretty well rounded diet.

It's summer. Popsicle season. So my own unscientific, anectdotal assessment of dd is that it's not the sugar in the popsicle that makes her hyper. It's the fact we bought it off a truck in the nearby sprinkler park. When she has a popsicle at home alone with me, no effect.

Insert sound of woman running along the halls screaming.

PNJ, you can't live in a rut! Open your mind to change! Try out little changes. Paint your toenails a wild color. Buy some leopard print panties. Buy a pair of red flip flops with white polka dots. Instead of getting a French manicure (so safe, so conservative) live a little and go with bright FM red. Heck, buy some FM red pumps. I used to have a pair. They work, too.

Buy cheap earrings at the drug store. Go to TJ Maxx and buy an cheap orange handbag. Not everything you own has to be "good" or "high quality." Have some fun. Really. Then you can spend more time with your children without having to worry about messing up your clothes, hair and nails.

And let them eat cake and watch a few astroid showers. You'll all be better for it. Just because you set your life plan in concrete at age 25 doesn't mean you can't smash up to pieces and install some pretty flowers, trees, and a garden swing at age 40.

I don't need any *more* time, lol. I'm here all the time.

Like yesterday, we had a great day. BUT, since I didn't get enough down-time before bed, I wasn't totally relaxed. When that happens, I have crazy dreams that the babies are crying or crawling and about to fall down the stairs and I wake up a million times in a panic. Just like when I used to work in a bar. If I didn't relax long enough after my shift, I would dream about customers and being busy all night.

Is that proof enough that I don't need more time? ;)

And don't forget those little juice boxes and water for kids' parties. I guess no more putting them in the ice-chest to stay cool. Guests can just drink out of the hose.

That's why we have a nice supply of magazines in the bathroom. Yankee, Science, The Economist, Fortune. Take your pick. Or is that offering my guests a preference? Maybe I should stick with the Globe???

I've also read that salt is not harmful either. We've been told that it's attributed to high-blood pressure, but I read an article (several years ago - wish I knew where it was) that states it's never been proven. And before anyone jumps on me, ;-), no, I don't have proof. This is just something I heard several years ago. I'll see if I can find the reference.

Heck, when I was pregnant with DS1 I wanted to be put out on disability because I was so uncomfortable. I tried to get my blood pressure up by eating salty foods. No luck. My BP stayed at 110/70.

What has been proven about sugar is that it will rot your teeth. ;-) That and it's high in calories. One thing I've noticed about DS2 (who LOVES sweets) is that he's more tired when he eats too much sugar.

Juice boxes are way upscale and hoity-toity. They can use the hose or go down to the nearest body of water with a bucket.

Your mention of asteroid showers reminds me of one of my favorite songs ... By Mary Chapin Carpenter called When Halley Came to Jackson. Its about a girl who was a baby when Halley's Comet came through in 1910. Her father held her on his front porch as they watched the comet come through. 76 years later, she watches Halley's Coment again ... from her father's porch.

Beautiful song.
