What about eating issues?

We have debated sleeping issues to death once again....so what about another one of the issues of childhood....eating and/or not eating?

My kids eat just about anything and have a pretty well rounded diet.

You're right, I'd never eat seafood if I lived in a landlocked area!!!

Well, not ocean-caught anyway.

I sure did. I don't have any reason to believe they didn't kill it quickly.

Animal cruelty, however, is unappetizing to me as well.

Edited to add that I did read a restaurant review at one point where the critic was a little put off by having to chase down the prawns which kept attempting to escape his bowl. There is such a thing as seafood which is too fresh. ;-)

Noone is biologically predisposed to liking all taste and textures. We are all biologically predisposed to liking those to which we have had repeated exposure. And we are all biologically predisposed to be able to repeat exposure to new ones and add to our repetoire. If not, all those change averse sensitive babies would starve to death.

Umm, what part of Harry Potter book release doesn't say Very Special Occasion to you?

(In other words, it is a pretty big deal at our house. Even our almost four-year-old is getting excited.)

It is a given that my nine year old won't even sleep that night. He will need to read the book!

There is research that indicates that some people have more sensitive tastebuds in terms of tastes, particularly bitter tastes.

Also, people have varying levels of strength in terms of gag reflex.

But the whole point of my post was about *how* kids make their choices. If you remember, I said my son doesn't always take the "corrupted" food offered. That's the point. He loves healthy nutrious food *even though* he has been given the junk food. He knows how to self limit, because he knows that the choice is there. Many times when kids see treats as forbidden fruit they go overboard because they don't know when they are going to get it again.
