What about eating issues?

We have debated sleeping issues to death once again....so what about another one of the issues of childhood....eating and/or not eating?

My kids eat just about anything and have a pretty well rounded diet.

And I really, really believe it's more about the parents preference than the child. KWIM. I really believe the whole to schedule or not to schedule is based in a parent's personality. The easy going, go with the flow person is more likely to have the flex schedule and the anal, schedule, control oriented parent is more likely to have the strict schedule. You rarely see the anal parent say "well my child thrives on a flexible schedule. So I am going to go against my grain and be flexible". Thank goodness kids are so adaptable.

Not really. She doesn't have to "work" to get them back on schedule. They just do.

And if I'm home I do follow her schedule because my kids associate the schedule with being at home...they get hungry and sleepy around the same time. However, away from home the sights and sounds of a different environment might alter their habits for that day. They seem to adapt pretty well.

For example, my almost 4 year old still naps for 2 hours at home on weekdays. But if we are out & about she doesn't really nap. It doesn't affect her in any way except she falls asleep a little earlier than usual.

So a high activity level somehow balances out eating refined sugar every day?

The point of etiquette is that there are rules you follow no matter whom you're hosting. If etiquette, or hosting philosophy, said be nice to people you feel like being nice to and to whom it takes no effort to be nice, well then, we wouldn't need the rules, would we? We'd just be nice.
Congratulations! I'm so happy to hear it. I just heard the good news and popped back over, just in case you were still checking in.

All that from missing *one* nap? Wow. I am just putting this out there....but do you ever wonder if he was more flexible that he wouldn't react that way to missing one mere nap? Or do you think it's his personality? Because, man, that's quite a meltdown to a lack of a nap.

You just told me what I did wrong. Since what I really wanted of course, was a 3 yr old prone to prolonged screaming tantrums under at least SOME circumstances. Or you know. NOT.

Yes, exactly. It's a little strange to be bashing someone for not wanting to try new things, and then below say that she doesn't want to try new things.

I definitely accept that other people weight costs and benefits differently.

You are probably right. I'm sure if she invited over a boss or someone whose opinion was otherwise important to her, and they were vegan, she'd serve an entirely vegan meal.

Do you believe vegetarians should offer meat to their meat eating guests?
