What about eating issues?

We have debated sleeping issues to death once again....so what about another one of the issues of childhood....eating and/or not eating?

My kids eat just about anything and have a pretty well rounded diet.

She had no problems that I know of with the other kids she has nannied. She knows that for parents that WOH kids are not going to maintain the same exact schedule she uses on a day to day basis. It's like how kids have one schedule for school and another on the weekends. I used to have to eat at 11 am in my elemtary school because of the schedule but I didn't do that at home!

My nanny does not feel I am "wreaking havoc" with her schedule because she realizes it's her schedule that she employs to help her day go easier for her...she has never asked me to keep her schedule because she could care less. My schedule doesn't affect hers!

In fact, she came on vacation to SS place with us and we followed no schedule at all. We all had a great time and she never once voiced any desire that we rush back to the Hotel at 12 for bathtime and naptime;)

I agree about the food as a reward. But "finish your dinner or no dessert" isn't a "reward" mentality. At least not for us. It's a "you can have less-healthy options AFTER you've eaten enough sustenance to keep you healthy" mentality. It's all in how you presnt it to the kids. If they ask "wHy can't I have dessert?" and your answer is only "because you didn't eat your dinner." then I can see teh "reward" mentality. But if you add "Its important that your body get enough vitamins and minerals. Ice cream doesn't have any. So its more important that you eat your dinner. Then, when that's done, you can make room for the non-healthy stuff."

It's much more efficient for us to "trade off" watching the kids all weekend.

No, I am concerned about vitamins and minerals, dental care and diabetes. I just also think it's fun to watch you catastrophize.

I said in my post want/need. We want to go out as a family and we like to do it. Both for practical purposes (visiting DH's grandmother who is disabled) and for entertainment purposes (going to the beach)

Remember, I don't have a car and it takes us longer to accomplish certain things because we have to take the train or a bus. And we like to do many of those things as a family. And my kids have taken naps on the subway with no problem ;) LOL

I am once again in the middle on this one. If I had friends that were vegans or kosher, I would certainly respect it and be sure to cook approitate food when inviting them over.

Family, though, is family. It is different. For example, my sister might visit this summer. Oh, goody. Anyway, her family is on some weird Biblical diet. The requirements change weekly. One week they can eat yougurt. Another week, they can't. Was yogurt even mentioned in the Bible? So, I totally don't get it. I would never invite her to eat at my house because I can't keep up with her food requirements. We eat out when she is here. It is easier. Sometimes.

We ate out last summer. The oldest daughter wanted mac and cheese. She had mac and cheese for lunch. My sister would not let her eat mac and cheese since she had already had it. This became a forty minute battle of wills. She told me the nutrionist told her that they should not repeat food during the day. I asked if the nutrionist meant for the kids to starve instead of eating

I am pondering how you and your sister came out of the same womb/household.
