What about eating issues?

We have debated sleeping issues to death once again....so what about another one of the issues of childhood....eating and/or not eating?

My kids eat just about anything and have a pretty well rounded diet.

I relaxed while he was in bed and relaxed while he was out of it.

Well granted, I am not hyper about a lot of things but....I don't think I like that (non hypervigilant) any better than being known as slacker parent by you.

I have to say, I didn't enjoy my kids when they were little half as much as I do now, for the same reasons as you; they stressed me out a lot. But they had special needs, so I don't know what it would have been like if they had been more typical. Regardless, I don't feel a parent of young kids should feel "less than" if their experience of parenting isn't the same as everyone else *says* theirs is.

I don't find time with my kids to be downtime 90% of the time either.

If by downtime you mean totally relaxed just hanging out and vegetating in the couch then no, hanging out with my kids is not "down" time 100% of the time.

But when I'm home from work with the kids it is different from being out & about. I'm comfortable with my family and it is relaxing to be in my home...even when the kids are acting crazy! I think time with kids is a combination of down time/fun time/stress time. It really depends on the day & the activity they are engaging in. Anyway, I'm not striving to be relaxed all the time...I enjoy the hecticness of kids after a long day being isolated in my office.

But regardless of how my kids are behaving, I still look forward to spending time with them in whatever "state" they happen to be in and as a family we strive to do as many activities together. Personally I get enough alone time at the office, after bedtime, and on weekends during naptime.

Do you think it is their age? Zak and I went to the mall today and played minature golf. We ate at the Aquarium (I always feel guilty eating seafood in front of a fish tank) then went to Barnes and Nobles. It was lovely. We had the math fight on the way home but that was kinda funny. We had a great time.

Now, if Alex had come, it might not have been as much fun. Alex is fun in free, wild settings such as parks, pools and zoos.

As the kids get older, time with them is growing more relaxing.

You know, come to think of it, I'm not afraid of ants. I never was. It's just when they all come running out of a lady's pants like that... yech, creepy. And isn't sanity really just a one-trick pony anyway? I mean all you get is one trick, rational thinking, but when you're good and crazy, ooh ooh ooh, the sky is the limit!

At the aquarium near here .. they actually have recipes posted next to the tanks.
