Ok, I'll admit this career change hasn't gone as well as hoped.

If I am remembering correctly your girls are in the early teen phase. Do you think quite a bit of their complaints are based on their current life stage?

I have a friend/ "co-worker" who took a part time job at a local non-profit (where I volunteer) and her 13 y.o. daughter was furious with her over the summer because the mom was working 20 hours a week during the summer and wasn't there for her "like she was for her older two sisters". We discussed it and my friend said both of her other daughters went through a phase where the mother could do nothing right.

Since you have just con through a big life change there is more fodder for your girls to complain about, but rest assured, they would be complaining no matter what job you have or how much money you make.

Before you throw in the towel so soon in your *chosen* career- for which you have spent *years* preparing for, I would make darn sure it isn't just to provide a few music lessons and it is what *you* want to do to. I had friends who parents stopped paying for lessons in JR and my friends went out and got jobs to pay for them themselves. They babysat, they walked dogs, they cleaned cars, houses, yards.......

No decision is perfect. Each have their own assets and deficits. Life is gray not black and white.

I am well aware that this is a debate forum, and this is the point of it.

" I enjoy debating to a degree, but sometimes when I give my opinion, especially on when someone gives me a scenario and then is wondering what my (and others) thoughts are, or a what I would do in a situation, I do just that... and get a little irritated when someone who doesn't really have anything to do with the original poster chimes in and almost implies what I think is wrong because of AB or C. "

Some of the best debates we have had have been off shoots and off shoot of off shoots of off shoots of the original OP.

my philosophy is that we're all in this together -- sometimes Liza comes first, sometimes I come first, sometimes we both come second to another greater good.

On the bright side, I would have taken being let go a lot harder if I'd realized that before, lol.

"I'm surprised at how much of my contentment with life was tied to knowing I could provide for my family well."

I am so not surprised and I doubt anyone who has read this board regularly, is either.
