Were you aware of the pay cut in teaching? I think if I was happy in my present job and was only going into something else for the pay, I would have researched the pay scales BEFORE changing jobs.
I personally do not make "alot" of money but the pros to me are higher as I work less than 40 hours, work close to home, have some flexibility in my job and work with people I really enjoy seeing everyday.

there's really no reason NOT to know what teacher salaries are as Public School teachers' salaries are just that -- PUBLIC. Anyone can look up what teachers make in any district. I believe that public charter schools would be the same way.

but individual public school teachers salaries are not public..aren't some compensations based on levels of education.

They're public were I come from. I could look up exactly what each teacher makes in my town, as well as any other public employee.
