"I get the how do you afford your kids a lot...i always keep em guessing and never act presumptious as in well we can...but completley opposite ...it drives ppl buggy..".well then how do you afford this this and this" ..."we just do it" lol"

That's the part I find so incredibly rude. Not. Their. Business. Especially since I am pretty sure that your kids have shoes and appear to get fed once in a while.

The question about whether you are related to the local notables, that is a bit more understandable. Dh gets that a fair amount. He has the same last name as someone prominent, but the guy is no relation as far as we know.

i think b/c they have shoes etc...they want to know how we aford those shoes...and feed them and put all three boys in football etc . I live in a poor, working class / Upper middle class area ... middle class is few and far between...if you are making 50gs you are considered by some round here upper middle class,,,,so for some there is a bit of competition going on...since if you are upper middle calss every one knows it bc they make sure you do...lol

"ETA: If someone asked how I afforded my kid, I would be really tempted to deadpan with all seriousness that I send her out to beg in the streets. Since you have 4, it would work even better. You could elaborate, "Dd2 has the BEST puppy-dog face. She brings in the most of all them and I just could not be prouder!"

You have nailed it...LOL!

LOL, I would go nuts in a place like that, but you seem to take it in stride. That said, I have gotten some doozies in the past too.

now that iam older i have learned to take it in stride < i dont care what you think..lol> i think if i was a new mom and the kids were little...I would be outta here...and im not so sure i would have been able to keep my cool at all times...I think i would have broke in some instances and may have been instigated in to a verbal argument..

"cant you control your wife"

I like your DH's response to this question, but occasionally it might be fun if he said something along the lines of "Well, I used to be able to control her, but then the batteries on the remote died."

Or: "Oh boy, it is really something. There is only one thing that will keep her quiet and, you know, I have a business to run as well."
